89 Wrangler Sarah Rain cover

I've been searching to find a top for the yj that has a slanted roll bar but I've not found any. Does anyone know about where I would find one that fit's that year? I have started making one because I want to be able to access inside without taking it off and I can't find anything like what I'm making. I was thinking that there has to be others out there that want a more user friendly top out there.

teris1stuf,

Did you ever find one that worked, I am new to jeep forum and this is one of the reasons that I joined. I am looking for a full cover or even a partial that would work for when I get caught away from the house in the rain. I have already blown one amp and would like to keep from blowing a second one when I running almost naked.

If you are looking for an emergency cover just to keep the rain out (cant drive down the road with it on) Do a search for a cover to fit a CJ7. They are the same with the same style roll bar as the early YJ's.

If you are looking for a frameless top to throw on and drive? You are SOL there. They don't make any for the sport bar in the older YJ's. You would have to switch the roll bar to a family style bar. With the "L" shaped bars in the back instead of the slanted ones.

Morris 4x4 sells an emergency top from Pavement Ends for $130 with free shipping. It comes with a stuff bag and ponchos. You can drive at slow speeds once it's on. There's also a trail cover, but you can't drive with it on.

I'm looking for more of an emergency cover. I found one by smittybilt that is a full climate jeep cover that sells for $99. I also found a bestop all weather full door coverage trail cover for $133. I'm trying to figure out how hard it is to put on the trail covers by myself vs. the full jeep covers. Anyone have experience with either of these?

I checked out the Morris pavement ends emergency tops $129 and they are only for 1992-1995 jeeps YJ's (Side note: Vehicle is drivable with top on) . They do not cover the entire jeep when you are running naked though.

They do sell one for 77-91, but there's no picture and I can't figure out how it goes on the sport bar, the pics all show one over a family bar. Maybe it's more of a fast-back style. Maybe you can find a picture on another site

I contacted their customer service department asking for pictures or a better explanation. We will see what they send back. I will update this thread when I hear back from them. Until then hopefully it won't rain much, LOL!

That's kind of how I pictured it would look. Not much protection for your windows if you have half doors unless you carry your windows with you. But it's certainly better than nothing.

I think at this point I am ready to go buy a tarp and carry that in my jeep.....I have looked at a lot of them and just wasn't that impressed, especially for the money they wanted.

CyndiB what do you think?

I guess it depends on how you want to use the cover. If you just want to throw something over it while it's parked, then I would go for a tarp and just use bungee cords to secure it. It you want something to carry with you in case you get caught with your top down and need to drive home, which is what I think the OP was looking for, then I would go for the emergency top. A friend on another forum who lives in TX uses a trail cover with good success, but those are still around $100 and you can't drive with it on. So far I haven't had to worry, I live in CA where it seldom rains, and when it does we have plenty of warning, heck, rain makes headline news here.

If you're looking for just a simple rain cover to keep the water out while you're parked Bestop's Trailcover is the way to go. It's a little more expensive than others but it's made with the same material as their soft tops. I have one for my '95 and the nice thing is that they have a big door flaps, which is nice since I drive doorless/topless when the weather is warm. They also have sell tops that fit the '87-'91 models with the angled roll bars.

Invariably, someone orders the wrong Bestop Trail Cover from Amazon due to the model years with different roll bars.

New, the covers are around $140.
I got a used one from Amazon for $75.
The original box was torn and inside a larger box.
The original box also contained a note from the first purchaser stating it didn't fit.
Other than that it was like brand new.

There is a used one for the Sport bar out there now for $93.
I got mine a couple of years ago but the 'used' pricing may be based on how long it has been sitting on their shelf?
