Brakes Question

When I put my jeep in reverse from park I hear the back brakes release really loud I know it's the brakes but it sounds gears needed to be greased and same when I go from reverse to drive. But I don't hear it when I am driving and I stop at a light or stop sign. Please help!!!

Thanks

Does it sound like a grinding noise? I have the same thing happening with mine & took it to the dealership to get it checked out....they claim that it's 'normal' & that the brakes are just getting 'broken in'. But yet when I had my black one (same model year, 2013), I never had that noise! But the dealership told me that if it doesn't go away over time, to bring it back in & they may end up replacing the brakes. Good to take it in & have it on record in case it gets worse or doesn't go away. If you take it in & they find something other than what my dealership told me, please let me know.

It could be the rear diff. and is normal. Your wrangler is normally running in rear 2wd. There's slack in the driveline (you can turn the driveshaft a small partial rotation before it loads up). Going into reverse you hear a clunk as it unbinds from one direction to the other. This is normal, louder on some vehicles (like full size pickups with larger differentials)

No grinding noise or Clunking noise just sounds like the back brakes are releasing but very loud like dry gears. I was in the street leaving and my mom from the house said what was that noise.

I hear/feel the rear end load up when I go from park to reverse and the Jeep actually rises a little but there is no clunking sound of any kind when I release my foot off the brake and start backing.

This^ I've driven lots of larger pickups they all bang/clunk when you drop into reverse.

It could the hill start assist. You can check the manual, disable it, and then see if that solved the problem.

So I took it to the dealer yesterday and they said its normal and it's my brakes making that loud sound. I just have never had a car or truck that my brakes make any sound when I talk my foot off the brakes to move. O well

It's not supposed to be that loud. But, when the Hill Start Assist releases the brakes it does make some sounds at times. You might want to consider temporarily disabling it to see if that's what's going on.
