You are going to be hating life during that rear bumper install:banghead:, but growing to love that Smittybilt rear bumper when all the dust settles...:D

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 06:06 PM

why so. i seems fairly straight forward. i hope 4 years of vocational auto mechanics will get me through. I'm pretty sure i can complete the job in under 2 hours. i had the front bumper off a month ago and i haven't taken the rear off yet but nothing a little pb blaster and heat can't fix.

Jma20a 01-21-2009 06:34 PM

some rear bumpers require drilling into the rear cross member. not to sure on the smittybilt though.

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 06:37 PM

there is some drilling required. i'm charging my batteries for my drill now. i only have to drill two 5/8 inch holes and i already went out and bought a really good bit. is it really neccessary to remove the rear body blocks for installation?

I did not have too but, I have a 1.25'' bl. I believe you will have a much easier time installing the frame tie=ins and also getting to the upper backing plate bolts if you do remove them if the vehicle doesn't have a bodylift.

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 06:53 PM

yeah i don't have a bl yet put future plans include a 1 inch one. a couple of my buddoes said they didn't have to remove theirs but one of them bought their jeep with the rear bumper already on it and the other has a 2 inch body lift.

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 06:56 PM

thanks for the heads up, much appreciated. the instructions say it's not neccesary but it makes installation easier.

distortedtj 01-21-2009 07:00 PM

:wavey:If you have anymore questions let us know.

Also I highly suggest swapping out all the hardware that comes with the kit with Grade 8 bolts. ;)

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 07:21 PM

i thought about doing that. i have a fastenal near bye me. i should swing through on my way to my buddy's house. they're pretty good down there. i walk in with a bolt or two and bam they have my new pieces in hand almost instantly. good store.

speepdaedeesi 01-21-2009 07:36 PM

consider your stock bumper sold. speepdaedeesi=cheepdaedeesi=iseedeadpeeps

--edit:--payment sent--. send me a pm to confirm, and a pm when ya ship it if you dont mind.

thanks, and good luck with the new bumper! and dont forget the hardwarez

speepdaedeesi 01-21-2009 07:40 PM

oh and wipe off that mass. snow before you ship. i dont want it co-mingling with my pure nny snow. it might form a new crossbreed of snowflake..

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 08:13 PM

lol..i'll give her a good bath before i ship it.

Triple88a 01-21-2009 08:27 PM

I had to remove my rear body mounts when i took off my bumper..

Doesnt matter if you have or dont have a bl, its the same. Body lift pucks go on top, the bottom where the bumper bolts are remains stock.

Also Infamousbliss is that suppose to be ground?
Where's YOUR Playgound!!

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 09:10 PM

:rofl:hahaha i should have seen that before. thanks

infamousbliss 01-21-2009 09:15 PM

well as you can see in the above pictures that what appears to be ground is actually snow and ice covered.

distortedtj 01-21-2009 09:20 PM

Bumper Installs
2 Attachment(s)
So today in the nicest of weather i installed a smittybilt xrc rock crawler front bumper and a smittybilt rock crusher rear bumper. the installs went fairly easy with the exception of one bolt on the front bumper , but a quick fix was to weld a nut on the torx bolt and wah la. it took me a total of 3 hours for both installed and of course that included smoke and beer breaks. here are the pics for you. sorry i didn't get many from the install but i was busy working and forgot to take the pics. oh yeah i purchased the d-ring mounts on the front bumper seperatley off ebay. i did save $30 of the rear bumper from smittybilt because i sold the d-rings that came with the bumper back to smittybilt. everything came out fairly easy and no busted nuckles. i know the winch is missing but it's in the mail. a smittybilt xrc8 ($325 on ebay). enjoy

infamousbliss 01-22-2009 02:57 PM

all hardware was replaced with grade 8 hardware from fastenal. $14.40

ccain 01-22-2009 02:58 PM

That looks awesome! :punk:

infamousbliss 01-22-2009 03:01 PM

the near future as in next week includes a 4 inch lift new mx-6 shocks, the winch, and new hella driving lights on the front pre-runner bar. i put the factory ones on just for looks till tues. i cut the wiring harnesses off them so i could figure out how to wire the hellas into the factory conectors. should look pretty sweet. still looking for some moabs.
also installing the tc drop kit but as soon as i get my sye and tom wood drive shaft i should ready for this season.

infamousbliss 01-22-2009 03:03 PM

put a sticker on the sides of the hood and bam you got one sick wheeling machine.

distortedtj 01-22-2009 08:07 PM

Looks good bud. I notice the rear is not a swingout,, did it still come with the frame tie-ins?

distortedtj 01-22-2009 08:08 PM

looks good bud.

infamousbliss 01-22-2009 08:16 PM

no frame tie-ins. i drilled two holes and then i didn't want to drop the tank. so i shorted it 4 bolts for today. next week it will be on a lift and we'll be taking it down. all bolt holes lined up front and back. smooth transition. the rear is accessory friendly. i need to get a hitch but not yet.
