Been looking into doing a locker up front on my 91. I've heard from some people that it will fight me in the snow. What did they mean by that? Any ideas?

locker's in the front will increase your traction in almost every conceivable off road situation.

The front locker won't exactly fight you in the snow but you just need to get the trick down for turning. You need to give it throttle thru the turn. Keeping on the gas will keep your outside wheel spinning a little faster to get you thru the turn. I put a locker in my front and it is by far the best purchase I have made for my jeep.....and tires I guess too lol. I got a lock right from Rusty's for $211, if they are still on sale you won't find a better deal. Good luck, you won't regret the purchase.

Increase in traction is not the only consideration in snow as you will find in a locked rear end that breaks loose around every turn. Lockers on the front will turn at the same speed so going around a turn the inside tire will need to slip which means you will slide till it catches up, going up hill a locked jeep tends to crab walk (move sideways) and put you in a ditch. Open diffs or LSD's are better in snow, but are no where as good off-road. If you drive a lot in snow but still want lockers for off-road go with selectable lockers like Ox or ARB, you can turn them on or off as needed.

if you still have the front axle disconnect you'll be fine. if you have tj shafts or have permalocked the disco you will need a selectable locker.

We have an '11 JK with ESC and am thinking about getting a rear locker. It is a daily driver, and I'm not going rock-crawling with it but want something to help out in less than ideal conditions. Any suggestions?
