2000 sahara TJ

Im about to buy a 2000 wrangler sahara edition TJ and wanted to know what you guys thought about it. I am new to this forum so go easy on me. It has 86k miles on it and a 1.5" lift (which I will most likely replace with a 3.5) and 31" a/t tires(probably replace these too). They're asking for 10k, but it doesn't have a/c and KBB and edmunds averaged about 6-9k depending on condition. Comes with a hard top and says its "female driven" which i'm going to assume is sort of a hint saying it has not really been off roading. I am going to take a look at it this week and try my luck and checking for rust, identifying the axle, looking for leaks etc.. but im pretty new at this stuff and would love all the advice you guys have to give.

-sidenote: im going to sell my current 2005 jeep wrangler tj 2.4L after buying the I6

If kbb says 6-9. Why pay 10? I bought mine 2k under kbb and came with two tops and was in very good.(not excellent condiotion. I'd definitely talk him down. The 1.5 inch lift isn't anything that's like a 60$ lift lol

10 grand would be really ambitious here in NC. I bought my 01 Sahara with a/c, hard top, and Dana 44 rear...with 80k on over 3 years ago for less than that. Low mileage is ok but sometimes that means it sat for a year or more which can be bad. It would have to be pristine to command that money and I would pay a mechanic to check everything on it!

God I hate coming off as sounding like a sexist, because I am not, just ask my wife and my two adult daughters, but an unfortunate stereotype holds true. Most women are very hard on clutches, for some reason they tend to ride them a bit while starting out. I don't know why, it just is.. I'd stay away from it, besides, 10 is way too much.. Offer 6 and tell them the clutch is a bit on the weak side, even if it isn't..

the price is about 30% too high for this Jeep. In my view, "Female driven" should never, ever be construed as "babied/pampered/well cared for", or, "never used for off-roading".

didn't all Saharas come with A/C?

99GoldenSahara 07-23-2013 08:52 AM

Don't know about 2000 Saharas, but AC and cruise control were options on my 1999 Sahara. Perhaps even the only options unless the Dana 44 was one back then.

i think (not 100%sure) a/c on the sahara became standard for model year 2001....I know that in 2002 a/c and cruise control was standard.

I have a/c and cruise in my 2000 sahara, I always assumed they were standard.

I got my TJ (granted, not a Sahara) for right at 6k. She's a 1997, female driven (PO, she did a real nice job keeping it up, it was basically showroom condition) with 140k miles and a soft top. and AC.

10k seems a bit pricey......

Agreed. 02 sport with the 44 rear 155xxx miles 5k. Very clean rust free

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'm definitely going to look around some more unless I can talk him down significantly and depends on the condition as well. Ill keep you posted!

So I talked to the guy with the 2000 Sahara for 10k and tried to talk him down but he didn't wanna reason and was staying firm at 10. He's a nice guy though don't get the wrong idea. But I'm going to look at one closer that's a 2002 sport utility with 82k miles, and they have it listed at 14k....which I called and told them was ridic. And she said if I was going to negotiate that low shed rAther do it in person which I agreed with. I'm headed there now. Quick replies would be helpful. The one I'm going to look at is super clean and hard top looks near perfect but I'm looking to score it for 9-10k so well see what I can do.

Rubicondon53 07-23-2013 12:27 PM

2004 Rubicons are going for 12 to 16 k , the sports and Saharas are not worth what those folks are trying to get. They are dreaming

MarkGLHS 07-23-2013 12:31 PM

^depends on how well optioned the Sport is. unlike the Sahara which always came loaded, you could get a bare bones Sport. Do the NADA numbers after you have all the options figured out. Look for these options: D44 rear axle, automatic transmission, duel tops, a/c, cruise control, premium sound with cd player, 30" tire and wheel group (Canyon wheels). Those are the biggies that can add several thousand to the price.

don't forget to get on your back and check the frame for rust, poke your finger inside the frame and feel for loose material. pull up the carpeting too to look at the floors. good luck.
