I replaced the clutch packs in my dana 35 trac lok. I think I got everything installed correctly with the clutch packs but I can't get the spider gears back in. They look like they are hitting the carrier. Do I have to compress the clutch packs or something to get the spiders back in our did I do something wrong when installing the clutch packs?

Sub'd for future reference. Mine have to be shot at 155k miles, another thing to the list

Yes you do have to compact them to get the spider gears in :( they make tools that do this, but an easier way is to get a threaded rod (or a bolt with no end), put a nut on each side, then a washer between the nut and clutch pack. You can twist the nuts out and the washers will force the clutch packs out enough to slide the top and bottom gears in. Hope that helps :wavey:

I was afraid of that. .. After I get the packs compressed and the spiders in will I have enough room to get the nuts back out? Would 1/2 inch threaded rod be strong enough?
