Mechanical to electrical Fuel pump
 
Sup fellas. Just recently replaced my mech. fuel pump. now I think its going bad again, maybe just a faulty one. I have a couple different fuel pumps that I use to drain gas and other such things. Could I some how bypass the old mech. one and install an electrical one? the pumps I have run off a car battery and could I hook it up to my ignition? '87 4.2 stock carter, weber will be installed shortly Also could a kinked vent hose that goes to the gas cap make my truck run different?

kinked vent hose could make it cutoff and then maybe not restart until the vacuum bled off the tank..yes you could run an electric pump if it is the correct pressure.usually about 4-7 pounds works for most carbs.I have bypassed the mechanical pump and I have left them plumbed through the mechanical pump.the electric pump needs to be mounted near the tank because they are designed to push fuel rather than pull it and it should be mounted at a point lower than the tank and the carb

Yeah I gave my truck to a shop and got it back with a garden hose on my gas tank. I drove to the beach and my jeep died within 5 mins. wouldn't restart for about 5 or 10 mins. could I mount it where the stock one is on a 4.0?

4.0 is mounted in the tank.91 up had the 4.0 with the pump in the tank so you might would have to get one of those tanks.I prefer the external mounted inline pumps because they are cheaper and you don't have to drop the tank to change them

Was thinking along the rear cross member. how could I block the whole on the engine? piece of metal with rtv?

both those ideas would work as long as you have the inlet to the pump at least as low as the lowest level of the gas in the tank..I usually try to put the inlet a little lower than the bottom of the tank..I have just left the mechanical on on jeeps in the past.I know they sell block off plates for chevys and fords so they probably do for jeeps too
