Brake power booster
 
Hey y'all, I think my power booster went out, my brakes have been iffy for a few months and ended up having to replace one of the lines and after I bled them they will not stiffen up, like they will be stiff then they will loose pressure again, what could this be? I was thinking the brake power booster, how hard is that to replace?

It's not hard to replace it is just hard finding one.


Drop the brake peddle connection and the booster is bolted to the firewall. You can separate the master no problem.

Sounds like master cylinder is bad.

Should i try replacing this first? I mean it would make me feel better that it's newer lol

Check your booster by (engine off) pump brakes until brakes are hard. While pressing on the brake start the engine. If your peddle moves your booster is good. If it does not move your booster is bad.

But sounds like you have air. Start at right rear, then left rear, right front and finally left front. Bleed the brakes like this until no are comes out. Then try again. If you still have spongy brakes then you have a leak some where. I would start at the MC myself but again bleeding correctly and thoroughly is most important!

Their soft before i start the jeep, and when I replaced my hard line I only took fluid out of the front brakes, I did not mess with the rear brakes, should i still bleed them?

Oh and I forgot to say that I am finding brake fluid under my master cylinder and on the front brake coil line going to the proportioning valve, any thoughts?

Leak somewhere. Most likely master cylinder and that's why it's not holding pressure. Anytime you introduce any air into the system it needs to be properly bled. You have a few issues and with all due respect, don't sound like you have a lot of experience. You may be best off taking it too a shop and having them take a good look at it for you.

I will try to completely bleed the system tomorrow, I would take it to my buddy's but the only way to take it would be to drive it

With the leak by the master cylinder you probably won't be able to bleed it properly depending on how bad the leak is. But when you replace any brake line, caliper, brake cylinder etc. you have to bleed the whole system sorry.

What you're describing is usually a bad master cylinder. My booster is 24 yrs. old and still fine. I'm on the third master cylinder.

Okay thank y'all, I talked to my buddy and he said master cylinder also haha, so I will be replacing that

I had same problem had to replace master and booster bought mine at oriellys auto parts brand new less than 150.00 don't have to worry took 1/2 day bleeding and all
