Redneck'd TJ Build

It started a few years ago with an 80 CJ 7, built it from ground up and sold it. A few years pass and I bought this jeep.

99 TJ with 68,xxx miles 4.0 3 spd auto D30 LP and D35 with 3.07 gears.

The day I brought it home I had an 1'' coil spacer for front and a set of 33's waiting for it. I did some research knowing that a 1.25'' BL would allow me to fit these tires. So i had to make a BL out of parts from previous lift kits I had llaying around..

The day I brought it home and installed lift and tires.

Then I ordered a front bumper, 3.25 Rough country lift, bought 33x12.50, regeared to 4.56, locker in the rear and then upgraded tires again to 36'' Super Swampers, because I regeared too low. Good accident though.

Well now for the interesting part:
My friend has a fab shop and I decided to go all out. We are in the process of 3 linking and double triangulating the rear with a TT. The front is in and installed with the TT completed.

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&i...409235456-1&zw
Preparing to cut all factory brackets off

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&i...409235456-2&zw
All the arms are built for the 3 link and painted. 1.75'' DOM .250 wall with JJ's

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&i...409235456-3&zw
HP 30 installed and brackets built with axle trussed and locker installed

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&i...409235456-4&zw
Back on the ground found a set of 6.5'' front springs I will use these until I cut them down to match the rear.

I will be using my front progressive springs in the rear with the top relocation bracket for rear coil. I'm not sure how much lift I'll have after spare tire and body armor is installed,so I'll wait to adjust front after that. The SYE is complete and the TT is done with custom cross member that will allow me to take skid plate off while transfer stays in place. We gained approx. 5.5'' of ground clearance with TT.

Little bit of rake??

I will be using and 8.25 cherokee rear axle because it's already built, geared, trussed and locked. We have about 10 spares of these laying around for parts so I will be using it. Now to get to work on the back half... I'm also adding corner guards and tube flares that will be built, along with boat sides for rocker sliders.

Cross member pic didnt gain as much as I would have like too, but couldn't beause of the rear drive shaft binding.

Hums99 08-17-2013 08:42 PM

Tail lights off and fender flares off ready to start putting rear corners on. And installing my LED's tomorrow and then onto the 4 link on Monday

Back on the lift for the tear down, building the 4 link now. I have the frame ground down and the factory brackets all cut off. Need to do a little frame repair then fab city.
The time crunch is on, only 22 days till the jeep jamboree.

So the little frame work turned into major frame work. No problem back together, welded in spring relocation bracket. Uh we didn't like that so cut the upper spring perch off and time for a custom one. Which will allow for longer springs, over 3" of length gained.

So busy day today, we got a lot done. Axle in place, cross member built, shock cross member built, arm brackets, JJ installed in arms, new upper coil buckets, gas tank skid cut and raised 2", front 2 3/4" progressive coils installed in the back. Now I need limiting straps for the back.

Back on all fours, have to tie up some things like brakes, e-brake, gas lines, and build drive shafts. But it scores a 1000 on the RTI. We put it on the ramp to see what binds and rubs and we do have some tweaking to do.

Well here is a good time to tell you to go to Redneck Fab on FB to see all of Doug's creative gifts of fabricating. He has his Cherokee build on there. It has11" lift with HP44 and 9" full width axles with exo cage sitting on 37" Pitbulls. You can see a little bit of it in the picture down above.

A couple more things to build and then it's trail time.

Hums99 09-01-2013 12:57 PM

Changed out the catalytic converter and muffler with a 2.5" Magnaflo, quite the difference in throttle response. Not saying it gave me HP but it's a lot quicker when the pedal is pushed.

Hums99 09-01-2013 10:27 PM

Time to build skid plates and sway bar discos tomorrow and possibly a steering box skid

Brake lights wired and installed also factory flasher was altered for the fast flash. It works great and saves $25. I got my info from Stu's Offroad.

I also brought it home tonight guess I didn't think about clearance in the garage. IT JUST FITS! 3/4" to spare. Whew.

So to give you some details:
99 Jeep 4.0 3spd auto
Front axle Hp30 with G2 gears and Yukon locker
Rear axle Chrysler 8.25 29 spline with Hobart locker to be replaced with a Detroit Tru-trac
Front axle was moved over an 1.5" forward with all new steering built.
Long arm is built from 1.75" .250 wall , all the brackets were fabbed for upper and lower arms.

The transfer case was raised over 4.5" , it's not completely flat because of the pinion angle. The 8.25 has a longer pinion then a D35.
The front drive shaft was lengthened 3" because of the stretch and the amount of articulation.
The rear drive shaft is out of a explorer and then cut down to length.

Interior has a OR Fab cage that needs tied in yet. I pulled the carpet due to a rain storm, I bedlined the front floor boards and used a truck bed mat cut to fit cargo area. I installed a Cobra CB with blue tooth, it works great with my phone.
I purchased used Genright corners to be used when we build flares everything will be tied in together so the flare can be used as a slider also.

If any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for reading, I'll her updating with some trail picture s from the jeep jamboree. And then back into the shop to build front fenders, rear flares, and boat side sliders.

Thanks man not my design or talent but I do help him in the shop on the builds.

Hums99 09-22-2013 12:48 PM

Jamboree went great, we ran the Grinder trail and Back n Up trail. Some body damage was done to some of the rigs, but I had no damage.

^^^ Thanks man It's been a long time coming.

Hums99 09-30-2013 10:22 PM

So I'm in the process of gathering more DOM for my flares and getting ready to fab them up. But it's time to do some trails and enough garage time. Three months till in the garage total of 4 weeks building it waiting on parts and pieces. 1.5 weeks to get a MML I think is a little absurd. But what can ya do.
Update on Doug's XJ- He went to the Catskills Jeep Jam and had a little to much skinny pedal. He snapped his front 44 chromo axle, hub, u joint, rear 9" housing, ring and pinion. Needless to say it was a good thing he trailered it there.

Hums99 10-14-2013 09:03 PM

Well I had a great conversation with John today from 4LOW Parts.com. He is in Las Vegas and has awesome deals on quality stuff.

I have decided to get a Currie Anti Rock to help limit the body roll while wheeling. I did a search and his co. had the best price. I tried ordering it because of the free shipping only to charges $28. So I cancelled my order. I received an email asking if I has problems and I told him. He replied back with the free shipping code and knocked another $20 off the order. So I got home to place the order not only did he give the discount but the Internet price was changed so everyone can benefit. Price was $359 Sale price $349. Internet price now is $329.

So if anyone out there needs or has been considering one, this is the cheapest I could find it with free shipping.
