I'm getting a snorkel kit and have been reading that mechanical fans propel themselves into the radiator when submerge so I've been looking through this forum and seen a lot of discussions of electric fans vs mechanical and was wondering how fast does it take to damage the radiator or fan clutch when it's submerged? I don't water forge very often but I just want to be safe also when I do the nose is submerged for 3-10 seconds
Thanks for reading
My experience is how you described. Nose enters the water then levels out. I have a snorkel and it sure makes you try stuff you wouldn't have before. The deepest (and most stuck) I have been in water the fan was probably about 4 inches in the water and it didn't hit anything even with revving hard trying to get unstuck. I think you are safe to stick with the stock set up. I'm not worried about mine. I do imagine if you had it revved up to 5000 rpm as you dipped nose first into the water hole you might have a problem. You should be fine as long as you are conscious of your RPMs when you dive in. Once your leveled out you would probably float before the fan gets to deep.
