hard top doors with soft top
i recently looked about buying a soft top for my jeep. but i had a question about my doors. will the soft top would fit on my hard top doors?? i have saw jeep with soft tops with hard top doors they have a little black plastic piece all the way around the top of the doors..... the guy at the 4 wheel parts store said that he didn't know the name of it and he couldn't order them. can anybody tell me what they are called or even better where i can find them.

They're all over ebay. Door surrounds. Yes, you'll need them.

Edit: Just checked, not as many on there as there used to be... maybe because it's winter.

Anywho - for your viewing pleasure:

Make sure you get the knobs.

i was wondering about this myself. Have a hardtop with full doors. and i picked up a OEM 06 softy with harware but wasnt sure if i needed the surrounds.

you'll need the surrounds for the soft top anyway.
without them you may as well have a safari top.
you cant seal the side widows or top to door without them.

yeah those door surrounds are one of the big advantages of the tj soft top......other than not having all of thos annoying snaps

I got my soft top from a salvage yard for 75 bucks. Its not in "new" shape, but it keeps the cold out!

KellyK 02-08-2009 10:10 PM

i heard that soft tops will only fit 97-03 and 04-06 they change something? I ask because i got a brand new OEM 06 soft top and i have a 99

sean42069 02-09-2009 12:14 AM

should fit fine, they changed a couple things, but as long as you're installing all the hardware together you should be fine.
i know they changed the rollbar bracket, and tailgate bar at somepoint, ive heard about the header bar but i couldnt confirm that one.
so long as all your parts are from an 06 it should fit just fine.

KellyK 02-09-2009 07:36 AM

The only thing i didnt get is the surrounds. i guess im on the hunt for some of those from an 06

MATT35 02-15-2009 09:41 PM

i found a OEM soft top on craigslist with door surrounds. its black with the tinted windows....... the guy put it on his wifes Jeep and she didn't like it because of security issues at the mall he had it on the jeep for about a week...... long story short i bought it for $400 and it is practically new.... i plan on putting it on tomorrow hopefully i can figure it out im not sure that i know where the poles hook up at inside..... does anybody have pics on where it bolts up at inside.... thanks

KellyK 02-15-2009 11:27 PM

once its folded out it will slap you in the face where they go.

05GT-O.C.D. 02-16-2009 06:19 AM

Yeah, once you have it in your hands and near the Jeep it becomes self explanatory. The door surrounds will be the easiest part, so simple a caveman could do it.

MATT35 02-16-2009 03:21 PM

i know how it goes on i just dont have the pieces that stick thru the roll bar padding that bolt on the roll bar...... does anybody know what these pieces are called

MATT35 02-16-2009 03:49 PM

ok i just got off the phone with the Jeep Dealership they gave me a few part numbers i looked on and they have the parts they are sold seperatly as right side and left side they are $16.99 a piece does anybody know where i can find these parts cheaper??? tight with money i try to save every penny that i can

05GT-O.C.D. 02-16-2009 06:36 PM

What's the part number???

MATT35 02-17-2009 10:28 AM

55175802 is the right side part number

55175803 is the left side

they also said that i need to get some special screws they were $7.99 for four of them
anything to save money will help???

05GT-O.C.D. 02-17-2009 11:03 AM

Sorry bro, I missed your post #16 - I thought you were still talking about the door surrounds. Good luck.

you'll just have to pony up the cash for the brackets, but by "special" they really mean Torx. you can go to the hardware store and get a screw to fit the bracket once you get it, Torx or otherwise.

MATT35 02-17-2009 05:11 PM

ok do you think that i can get them from a salvage yard or something

booger 02-18-2009 09:45 AM

depends on your area... around here there aren't any TJs in the junkyards.
