Clutch disengagement sticky?

Occasionally, when I get to the top of the clutch travel coming up - I feel just a little bit of "stickiness" in the pedal. It's subtle, but it's that feeling of pulling something off an adhesive.

I searched, but examples of a sticking clutch were much more extreme.

In a past car (2002 Z06), the culprit was clutch fluid that was getting overheated and turning thick/black - which would cause a slight sticky feeling in the clutch. Replacing the fluid regularly alleviated this.

It's interesting to note it doesn't happen every shift.

Would changing the fluid alleviate this?

Otherwise, the clutch works/feels fine and has 70k miles on it.

Just a guess here, but could it be a bind or worn area on either the clutch pedal pivot or the pedal/master cylinder connection? Maybe spray a little lube on those points and see if it has any effect.

How long have you had the jeep?

Is the clutch fluid level good and are you leaking any oil? Specifically from the clutch vent slots in the bell housing?

Is this just the pedal feeling sticky or is the clutch shuddering?

I took a closer look, sprayed a little Teflon lube onto some of the pedal parts. It's definitely making a creaking sound inside the vehicle where the clutch pivot points/connector is in the foot well. That subtle creaking sound coincides with the "sticky" feeling at the top of the pedal travel.

No leaks or shuddering or anything.

Any suggestions on how to fix? Is the Teflon spray not the right solution?

I haven't even looked at mine, so not exactly sure what you're dealing with, but I seem to remember someone doing a write up about a bushing replacement on the pedal. Try doing a search for that.

I used MX/ATV Chain Wax on my pedal linkage. I also spray it on the transfercase linkage under the tub. It was something I already had and it lasts longer than most lubes because its waxy and won't wash away. But I bet silicone spray lube would work well too.
