License plate mounting.

Okay. So on the girlfriends jk. The front license plate is being funky. Whenever we take it to the octopus. It bends the plate because the pueblo dodge had the frame mounted with only two screws. It's mounted at the bottom and has nothing holding up the top. So how do you guys have your front plates mounted? Should I just burn two more screw holes into the bumper?

I have my front license plate inside the jeep in the windshield.

I have a custom front bumper so I don't run a front plate at all. 5 years without a problem in IA, and about 1 year so far here in CO.

Yeah I was thinking about buying a different bumper soon. But just wondering what to do for now. I think maybe the most logical thing might be to burn in two screws into the top.

I didn't mount a front plate. I haven't on any of my Jeeps and haven't had a problem with law enforcement yet.

Thx I haven't been pulled over in my jeep for anything.
A)Can't speed really
B)Jeeps are too cool to pull over
C) Burnouts are really hard to do
Friend got pulled over for the front plate on our way to a 4 wheelin trip. But it was an FJ. So...

You must not make it to downtown Denver much. My experience was similar to yours until last year when I had to go downtown every day for a work related project for about a month. Lived here in the foothills going on 10 years now and never got a ticket for not having a front plate, not even so much as a verbal warning.

Well that all ended when I had to work on that project downtown. In less than a month I racked up over a dozen tickets at $75 a pop. Oh and if you don't get payment to them within 20 days of the ticket being issued it actually doubles to $150. There are some serious parking Nazi's down there.

From the best I can figure if you park in a private parking lot I don't think they can ticket you there (not for sure, just my personal experience) however if you run with no front plate like a lot of us here, don't park at a meter downtown unless you feel like tossing $75 into the shitcan.

I drove my Mustang downtown and parked on the street and got one those sweet tickets, the meter maid told me they can't touch you in a private lot. I have never had a plate on the Stang and it's 5 years old.

My Jeep is now my weekend toy and no longer a daily driver. I live just North of Denver, so the only time my Jeep is in Denver is as I'm driving through to the trails. I think it probably comes down to how dicky the authorities want to be in enforcing.

Do the law makers not realize how much money the state would save if they didn't print/issue front plates? Most law officials I know don't even see the front plates unless you're speeding, driving backwards down the highway. Just sayin'.

BrianTG 09-18-2013 08:38 PM

Do law makers even care?

It's has more to do with stealing a vehicle. If you have 2 plates a thief that steals a vehicle has to swap BOTH out...most don't and that's how they get caught in a 2 plate state. That's how my CSPD buddy explained it to me...

SETI1x 09-19-2013 11:12 AM

Hmmmm, not sure if it offsets the cost.

Oberst Hajj 09-19-2013 11:57 AM

I've never ran a front plate on any of my cars here in CO... and I've had 7 of them over 13 years ranging from a Porsche to a very modified VR4 to an old beat up 4 Runner to the wife's Armada. Never a single issue with it.

I've got a really good buddy who is a state trooper from my car racing days. He said that the state actually wanted to do away with the front plate law (this was about 6-7 years ago now I think), but the troopers lobbied against dropping the front plate requirement. It is the number one way the can pull a car over and run info on the occupants. He says they catch more people with warrants out on them this way than any other way.

It used to be that it was just a fine, but last I heard it also carried points with it now. Not 100% sure on this last part as I’ve never gotten pulled over for it.
