Whistling 50's

I so want to put a nice 50" LED bar on my Jeep but I have read a lot of chatter out there about the light or the mounts whistling; are there any light/light mount combos out there that don't whistle? :whistling:

I saw this today, looks like they have an added part on their light bar that removes the whistle

Stupid question I'm sure, but are Chris's lights white or yellow? What I'm referring to is the color of the LED when it is off. If you look at the Lifetime LEDs they are yellow and from a distance (especially with the 50") the light bar has a yellow ting to it, the light its self is great. If you look at the Rigid Industries lights they are not yellow (I'm not actually sure what color the LEDs are) but the light bar appears clear or "white".

yellow like you can see the CREE LED's and thus yo think its yellow or yellow b/c they don't use good glass or lexan and it yellows over time?

I guess it's because of the type of LED's. Does Lifetime use CREE LED's, if so, that's the issue?

I think everyone is using CREE LED's for this type of application, what you might be seeing is the CREE itself b/c of how each reflector is designed.

I cannot find a photo of the "yellow" look. Do you know where one is?

Some white leds use a 'yellow' coating to produce a whiter light (figure that out!)
That is what you see on some, and the amber versions are clear/white, go figure...

Can anyone with Chris's lights post a pic of the 50" bar on your Jeep? I just want to be certain that there is now yellow tint like those above.

Thanks,

CPT_D

I get a high pitched sound from my 50" when I slow down to about 15-20mph. It only occurs around that speed. At normal driving speeds, it does not make any noise at all...wind or otherwise.

Do not buy those "Paramount/E-Auto Grilles" JK brackets. They are not tough enough for the application. Because they are made with 1/8" material, they allow the light to sit off center rather than locking it in place.

My TJ mounts are 3/16" steel and are rock solid.

You did well with the design of those.
I think a non-star version would be a nice offering for those that prefer a smooth look, but I do understand product identity :)

Noticed you are in Katy, that is where Liberty LED's are made. Nice guy runs the place. He is a Police offers, named David..you know em?

He is the one who sells the star brackets for this light bars. The good news is that the wiring can be hidden with those brackets.

TXST8tj 09-05-2013 06:51 PM

Don't know David personally. I have seen that he is starting to sell light bars with very little markup. I sell the same brand he does, but not as cheap.

I actually saw a set of those brackets this afternoon. I stopped by my powder coater and a lady had dropped them off to get coated pink.

Oh man I am sorry I didn't know you were a retailer here or I wouldn't suggested speaking with him. My bad.

TXST8tj 09-05-2013 09:57 PM

No worries, it's cool. I am not huge competition. I do it mostly to fuel my personal Jeep hobby. There are too many people in the LED game to try to be crazy #1 retailer. Liberty LED is selling them for a fraction of the price that Bean LED is selling them (locally speaking). I am right in the middle....and we're all selling the same lights.

Kingcat 09-06-2013 08:18 PM

To the ones talking about the yellow in the light. That is the die of the led cheaper LEDs have it more visible. High end LEDs like cree it is less vibrant but still there it has to be to make the light work.

And someone mentioned that they all use cree LEDs this is not true many use epistar and nichia. Including rigid. Also remember that there are many models of crees and most use the lower end ones. For instance I built a bar with 6 cree XML LEDs that will put a 10 led rigid to shame because used the better LEDs.
