Living outdoors with the top off?

Hi all. I'm in the market for a new Unlimited. This would be our third vehicle and would see use mostly as a daily driver with weekend trips into the mountains of northern NM. My question is how well would a new jeep do living outdoors with the top and doors off all summer? We get decent afternoon rains here in Santa Fe (nearly everyday a good hard rain during monsoon season last summer), and there is no covered parking where I work...I would rather not have to put a soft top up and down daily. Maybe a bikini top? Worried about the upholstery, etc...

Thanks for all advice!

it should be fine. i don't have a JK so i cant give you a definitive answer on them, but i can tell you about CJ's, YJ's, & TJ's. keep any electronics out of the rain (i'm sure you already figured that though). I would recommend getting some neoprene seat covers so the upolstery doesn't get nasty and also removing the carpet and rhino lining the interior. also, after market companies make cab covers that will protec the jeep while it is in a parking lot. you could try a "bikini" top as well. see the pics below

I've got a similar cockpit cover that I use for my convertible when I'm at work...it takes like 30 seconds to put on and does a good job at keeping the weather and dust out during a 12 hour work day. Certainly easier than putting a Jeep soft top up and down.

Not as well as the older Wranglers, they have more electronics and electrics and carpet. It really is not that hard to put the top up and down, but if you insist you will need at least a bikini top and make sure you park it so the wind doesn't blow too much water up around the dash and radio. You will probably want to lose the carpet, at least in the rear storage compartment as it takes forever to dry.

And of course you will want to pull the drain plugs.

I like the idea of pulling the carpet, and adding some sort of waterproof seat covers.

I come from a motorcycle background so being exposed to the elements doesn't bother me. Rusting out the floorboards in a couple of months would be a real bummer though.
