Trails in east bay??

I am located in san ramon near walnut creek and i was hoping if anyone knew of some fire trails or just easier trails for a tj with no sliders that is only about 1 hour away or maybe a little farther for a good day trip?? I know about hollister but i want something a bit closer?

Besides Hollister, there is Cow Mt. and Knoxville up North, for fairly easy trails but they are further than an hour away. Prairie City OHV is near Sac... you could head towards the Mountains and find some simple trails but that quite a drive too. Carnegie SVRA*is mainly for dirtbikes and atvs but they do have a small 4x4 place but it is lame compared to Hollister... I live in Concord and we are in a location where we have to drive a couple hrs for some good trails... good luck and hope to see you out soon!

Cow mountain is well over an hour from San Ramon- it has tons of trails that you could do - I personally don't like it because the brush is so bad.

I hear best time to go is early spring after they clear the trails.

There is a small obstacle course - but most is too. Much for us to do and we are in similar boat

Prairie City is an 1hr 35min from you, and is your best bet to get in some mild wheeling.

I am in San Ramon too. It does seem like you have to drive a long ways to get off road. One of my favorites for a short trip is Pine Needle Flat Trail AKA Boards Crossing) outside of Dorrington off highway 4 right along the Stanislaus River. A little chalenging, but not going to tear up your Jeep. A little bit of mud early in the year, but it is probably dry as a bone this time of year.

San Ramon to Dorrington is about 2 1/2 hours. The trail is out Boards Crossing Road. It goes right off of highway 4 right at the big curve in Dorrington. It is pretty hard to miss. It is a ways down to the river. After you cross the river hang a left into the Sourgrass day use area and the trail leaves from the back of that. Probably 2 hours one way on the trail depeding on how fast you go and how often you stop to enjoy the views.

Great spots to camp out at the end of the road. We had the whole place to ourselves back in June when we went.

When you can go... lets wait until lost cost run and then we can plan dates.

Sounds like a blast .. I'm in as well (unless I already missed it), just joined the forum today. I am in the Fairfield area. How do I sign up for the run, who coordinates the event? (sorry, very new to this).

No worries, we will start a new thread with run details when a date is picked where most people we wheel with can go. Keep an eye out on the threads.

I'd run it too if its on a weekend without lots of homework :thumb: maybe hit slick rock too
