I found a ford 8.8 with disc brakes and lsd on craigslist for $50, the problem is that it has a 4.11 gear ratio and my front has a 4.10. It seems like it's too small of a difference to matter so I'm going to do it but I want some advice anyway. I want to replace my rear 44 because it needs a new pinion bearing (PO had 6" lift and no S.Y.E.) and I don't want to pay that money to have that fixed right now and it only has the stock lsd anyway. My front has the ox locker so that I want to keep.
Don't believe they ever came with 4:11s. Here are some 8.8 facts I used to carry when looking for an axle so I would get what I was looking for. The ID codes are on a tag on the diff cover and it is important to measure the width so it will fit your YJ.
Look at the diff plate:

So I guess I would need new drive shaft, shock/spring mounts, spring plates, U-bolts and quite a few other things. Guess I might just have my 44 fixed after all, or try to fix it myself.
You will need an install kit for the 8.8 yes new spring perches, shock mounts, e-brake cables etc. The driveshaft I had still worked but need the flange adapter.
Then there is welding costs if you don't have one. Install kits are available from several places I got mine at East Coast Gear Supply all good except an issue with the e-brake cables. Waiting on a answer from tech support.
if the 8.8 is 4.10 and in good shape its worth the 50 bucks to buy it and sell it to off set some of your cost on the dana 44.
What he said. You could get easily 250-300 bucks for the 8.8. So lets say you get the $250. Then you are only out $200.00 on the repair to the D44
