SuperWinch LP8500 - ONLY $399 shipped

Superwinch has recently introduced the LP8500 - which is their lower priced entry level winch. Great winch for those on a budget, but need the occasional self recovery insurance.

This winch is WAAAAAYYYY better than the cheapies you get at Harbor Freight and Costco, and every bit the winch as the the M8000 - similar design, similar solenoids, lower amp draw, and almost half the price!

With a steel cable, you'd want a roller fairlead, not a hawse... what the reasoning behind that?

dave@rokmen 02-13-2009 08:58 PM

Steel hawse fairleads were and still are the standard for many recovery, hauling hoisting, shipping and plain out winching applications and have been for an extremely long time. (yes, with a steel cable) Roller fairleads are an upgrade to the steel hawse, which helps reduce friction in heavy use applications.

So it's by no means wrong - if it was, we'd have to re-write a ton of history and real life data that would show it's really worked out just fine....

That's ok - we were all new to this at one time or another... ;)

Ok, I just didn't see that on new winches, most come out with rollers.
