Best Wife Ever!

I know there have a lot of folks telling of their wonderful spouses, but my wife walks out of the bedroom yesterday, hands me her phone, and says "Can you tell him what you want please? I can't remember!" Thoroughly confused (and a bit concerned), I took the phone and heard the best voice ever (an employee of the local Discount Tire) on the other end. My wife was trying to surprise me with a new set of wheels and tires, but couldn't remember which combo I wanted. After not being able to explain it (and realizing just how many options there are), she handed it over to me to make sure I got what I wanted. So I now have a set of five 33x12.50x15 Duratracs and 15x8 Cragar Soft 8s ordered, and I should be able to get them installed sometime this week. Total with extra repair/replace protection plan was $1,700 out the door with $300 in rebates to boot. My 99 Sport 4.0L 5spd has the Zone 4.25" combo lift with 3.73 gears (Dana 30 & 35) and my 5yr old set of 30x9.5x15 street tires are just about spent. Hoping to regear this winter, but it may have to wait until the spring. I just replaced the rear pinion seal about 2 months ago, so I'm reluctant to do that again so soon. We will see how long I can stand the power loss, I guess.

Totally stoked, and I will post some before & after pictures once I get the new shoes fitted.

Freaking sweeeeeeettttt!!!!!!!

While yours might be in the running, mine talked me out of buying a Honda element (hippie liberal gun owner - I get confused easily). And told me to buy a wrangler. So I think she is in the running too:). Enjoy the new shoes!

Congrats! I run 33" mud grapplers with same 4.0 5 speed and have 3.07's and I can't use 5th hardly any but can still run 65 on the interstate in 4th. No hills here so getting around is no problem.

3.73 with the 33's is very manageable.

I guess I would throw my wife in the mix: sheared bolt in D35 that tore everything up. Showed her options and we are now getting D44,arb air locker, disc breaks for rear and a HP 30 with lockers for the front both 4.88 gears to support 35's.

Great stories. Throw me in the lucky guy/husband thread too please.
My wife is awesome !
She's not only the one that insisted that I trade the nissan in on the TJ, and actually found my TJ for me... but she's now thinking of trading in our denali on an LJ

She thinks very clearly. I work in an office with several folks that sneer at my 15mpg guzzler, and I just smile back. Just makes me happy to know that they are burning less, so I have more for the trails!

Awesome! A regear while swapping a D44 in the back would be awesome. I'll opt out of the torn up rear end, but glad you found a silver lining!!

Add me into the pool for guys with an awesome wife!

I just spent yesterday and today (and will add tomorrow too) installing a Metalcloak 3.5 in lift and new set of 5 Duratrac 33x12.5R15s that my wife let me order last month.

Add to that, I needed to order wheel spacers and the new driveshaft (already have the SYE kit here) and my wife of 31 years actually used her Amazon account to order both...

I'm not sure what I will end up paying in honey-do chores but whatever it is, it's gonna be worth it!!

Nice guys. My wife puts 50 a week in my jeep fund and when it gets to the price of what I'm looking for I pull it out and buy it. Got a engo 10000lb winch couple weeks ago and saving now for an antirock

JimboUSN 09-01-2013 10:46 PM

Those are some good stories. I'll share mine.

We weren't really looking for a new car when my wife saw a JKU roll past our house; doors off, top off. Fast forward a couple months and we were, again, not looking for a new car when we found ourselves at a Jeep dealership. Two days later I brought home the JKU. "No biggy" she said, "I can get a small car if we need a second car." Fast forward again and she is driving the JKU and I have myself a TJ. Every time we go for a ride I hear "I like _______ [about the Jeep].

Yeah, she's Jeep Wavin'. :thumb:

After reading these I teared up a little!

It's like pulling teeth to just get my wife to let me buy oil and a filter to do a oil change! Some very lucky guys here

Organic 09-02-2013 07:00 AM

Haha, that's awesome! My husband is like that. Gotta love the spouses that just can't remember and let you get EXACTLY what you want. It works :)

hambubba 09-02-2013 08:22 AM

Mine keeps talking about buying me a new top. Soon, very soon!

bdrake 09-02-2013 08:28 AM

A person once said that 90% of a man's misery or happiness comes from one decision, who they marry. I am glad to see that many others also made the correct choice as I did.

Waiting in Discount Tire right now. It's like Christmas came early!!

Nissantech 09-09-2013 03:09 PM

When I met my wife 8 years ago I wasn't sure how well she would get along with the Jeep. It didn't take long before she proved she was worthy of keeping. Picture one is her next to my Dad helping with the motor swap. Picture two is a shirt she picked out. Number three is her helping me with a Hyline hood louver with a pose that was also her idea.

Before and after. Love the look, and quiet on the road as far as I can tell so far. Of course, as soon as I got home the kids wanted a ride. I offered their first ride to my wonderful wife, and I barely got the words out of my mouth before she grabbed the keys out of my hand. She's sold, which will hopefully make the next few mods a little easier to sell......

A couple more. I had to make a spacer for the third brake light, and I'm fairly certain I am going to add a leveling kit to the front. Hoping to get a little off-pavement time with the neighbor in his '80 CJ7. Will hopefully get a chance to disconnect and see how she flexes!

I remember something about "what's mine is yours" on our wedding day, but it's all good. She works way harder than I do staying at home raising two little ones, especially when my job has me away from home for long periods.

When I became disabled I had to sell the race bike. My wife told me to get a jeep and hang out with some of my buddies. I bought a nice YJ 2.5. After our first trail outing she thought I ought to get a nicer jeep. So we bought a friends 04 Rubicon. We fixed it up some and had fun. I got a bug to take the grandkids and friends out so we decided to get something bigger. She took me to the Jeep dealer and we bought a new JKUR. She helped me get the TJ ready for sale and when it sold told me. What mods are you going to do to the new jeep with all the money from the TJ. Yippie kai yay.
