mntnclmbr 04-13-2009 10:13 PM

Isn't there any place out by Saylorville? or some of the quarries?

roadsuk 04-17-2009 02:50 PM

There is no legal place in Iowa for full-size 4x4s. There are several ATV parks but that does us no good. 600 acres out by Iowa City was open until the ATV groups convinced the DNR Jeeps are the devil and now it's closed to us. There is only private-owned land by some of the 4x4 clubs in Iowa unless you know of a person with their own land. The clubs in Iowa have started to try and get an OHV park but that takes alot of time and money so it will be a while. One club, Make It Or Break It(miobi.org) has "open-wheeling" events a couple of times a year so check out their site to see when that is. I believe the next open run is Memorial Day. The Jeep club,JOCCI(jocci.com), has some private land also that is fun to ride on but like everything you need to be a member. Other than those options, you need to go out of state. You should check out those two clubs and see what you think.

yeah i live in iowa too and really want some areas to tear some stuff up i mean, do any of those clubs do anything on the eastern side of things

I have quite a bit of land and have entertained the idea of a Jeep trail system, but the "tear it up" mentality is what concerns me. I love a good mud bog and slop around, but in the end, I have to clean it up and prevent erosion. I have worked hard to restore prairies, wetlands and forests, so I am very careful. I am still giving it thought....

Hey Iowa guys. Anybody on the east side of the state? I am part of a group getting started. Mississippi Valley Jeepers. We get together on a regular basis for trail runs.

I'm from the QC area. Where do you do your trail runs?

rogertc1 05-28-2010 10:30 AM

There is a Class B Road dirt road a couple miles north of Andrew, Iowa. Couple miles long follows a small ravine stream.

yjJEEPyj 02-12-2012 02:24 PM

I live around the quad city's. Im interested in your club. Were do you do your trail runs??

yjJEEPyj 02-12-2012 11:00 PM

I live in Maquoketa Iowa. I'm interested in your Club Firehawk. I know of a few LVL B and C roads within 40 miles of my house. Prolly around 10. And My parents have a Small amount of woods that I have free rain over. Behind my dads shop there is a small section of Valley to a narrow creek that I've road quads and dirt bikes threw for years. It would take some cleaning up.. But I would welcome anyone that wants to make some short trails.

jkiniowa 05-15-2012 10:35 AM

not too many places, kind of sucks

gillettetg 10-24-2012 04:16 AM

I am interested in Mississippi valley jeepers also..I have heard of qc jeepers and quad cities muddslingers also. There are trails in Illinois about two hours from the quad cities.

WarDamn 07-27-2014 10:10 AM

So I am guessing that Iowa pretty much sucks for offroading... Time to relocate to Colorado.... :)

yjJEEPyj 07-29-2014 04:02 PM

Closest place that is worth it to go.. is the cliffs offrad park. Its next to Chicago. About a hour nd 45 mins from Davenport. It gets alot of hate, people say the trails are no maintained well. But are off road trails suppose to be maintained? Mise well go hit a level B! Na but its a solid place to wheel. They have a jeep event coming up weekend of August 23rd. Pm me if your interested!

There are a few places in Iowa. There is one guy that built a huge offroad park on some land he ownes out in St Mary/Martensdale. It's gated off unless you are with him though. I see him post up on Facebook all the time and it looks like they hit the trail at least once a week if not more.

Another place is called "The Farm" out past Pella. It's supposed to be a really good sized offroad park built there as well. It's for members of the Jeep Out Club of Central Iowa but anyone can join.

Also coming is up the Iowa Jeep Show 4x4 Event in Nevada. 2 Day event that includes some offroad courses and other events. That is the end of September (20'th and 21'st)

I have not gone to any 3 of these places before myself so I do not know the quality of them but I have heard all 3 are great.

Just spent time at cliffs terrain in il. It was my first time at a park. I thought it was fun. Lots of scratches from trees on top

yjJEEPyj 08-08-2014 09:09 PM

Yea that will happen... I would go with no hard top

yjJEEPyj 08-11-2014 02:16 AM

Just had to share this pic! Me in the McLaren mp4-12c my buddy in the Ferrari 454 Italia just hitting up the Colorado back roads

If you join cedar valley jeep owners or iowa jeep club you can get access to the farm, I've been there a few times, it's a pretty awesome place.

Iowa is really lacking in public wheeling land. Which forces people to "tear" up B roads and other places. I would like to see if we can make a change. I am going to contact my DNR and see what needs to be done to change this. Who is with me?

Khatton 10-21-2014 11:36 AM

I'm a student out in Ames and just came across Timber Ridge park in Castana. Is anyone interested in going here possibly the weekend of 01Nov or the following? I may make a post in the general discussion forum to see if there's anyone else interested.

yjJEEPyj 10-21-2014 11:52 AM

5 hours from me >.<

Khatton 10-21-2014 11:54 AM

3 hours for me :/ I'm desperate though because I've yet to test out my new tires since I ran mine bone stock back in Indiana. It'd be worth it for a weekend road trip!

yjJEEPyj 10-21-2014 12:03 PM

How many acres is this place

Khatton 10-21-2014 12:14 PM

From another website that finds off-road trails, "Timber Ridge Ranch is the "Disney World" of Off Road Riding Parks in the Midwest. With over 2,500 acres and well over 100 miles of off road Iowa trails throughout the Loess Hills area. The terrain is mostly in the woods and the soil is silt like in areas and hardly ever "hard packed". It is not sandy but it is it's own unique mixture which is only found exclusively in the Loess Hills area. The trails may be used by members with the following vehicles: Jeeps & Trucks, Dune Buggy's, Dirt Bikes and Motocross Bikes, ATV's, Horseback, Mountain Bikes, Mopeds & Go-Peds, Off Road Roller Skates, Cross Country Skiing, Snowmobiles and Your Feet! "

Sounds legit! Wonder if its Dnr controlled. My off road jeep isnt registered

Khatton 10-21-2014 12:22 PM

Right?! I've inquired with them regarding a membership and the costs so hopefully they respond fast. I can't imagine it's too hefty of a cost for membership.

EnglishBulldog1 11-01-2014 02:44 AM

I just shot timber ridge a email about membership I think I sent them one a year ago and and got told that they were not taking new members, worth a shot tho! However we should not have to seek membership in clubs to wheel! We all pay taxes and should have public land to wheel. There are city parks/state park for family's to play, public hunting grounds he'll even dogs have there own parks! We need to get legislation to be on our side to take wheelers off B roads, farmers fields and other "No-No place"! It's to late for this election, but if we band together we can get some change! Who is with me?

Khatton 11-01-2014 02:37 PM

The email I got in return stated this, "Kyle,
We have only 2 memberships available and both lots have cabins on them. which are for sale . If interested, call me at xxxxxxxxx
Thank you,
Richard"
So it sounds like you have to own some part of land on the ranch or something similar to that? I'll call him sometime to check.
