Cylinder 3 & 5 Misfire
In june i bought a 97 Tj with a blown up 4.0, i purchased a rebuilt long block from a local jeep shop. Im throwing a code for a cylinder 3 & 5 misfire, its a pretty steady misfire. It happens 98% of the time, occasionally i will shift into a gear and it'll pull all the way through that gear without missing. that doesnt happen very often. I have replaced
Spark Plugs (twice)
Im sick of throwing money at it. whats the next logical thing to replace or test to do? Side not, if while its running i empty a can of carb clean into the intake pipe, and im talking the WHOLE CAN, itll run without missing for about 5 min....and at that time the intake plenum is cool to the touch. i was thinking the map sensor and the tps sensor.
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor generates a magnetic pulse signal when the engine is cranking or running. This signal is used by the powertrain control module (PCM) to detect the crankshaft position of each cylinder.
The camshaft position (CMP) sensor consists of a permanent magnet, yoke and coil. The CMP sensor is positioned next to the cam gear. As each cam gear tooth passes the sensor magnetic pick-up an AC voltage pulse is induced in the coil. The PCM counts the number of pulses to determine the camshaft speed. The number of pulses counted in one second is the signal frequency.
Either of these can cause misfire conditions.
