I have a 02 TJ everything on it is still stock. This is the third time in 5 months where I go outside to leave my house and the truck will not turn over. The first time I replaced the battery, as I thought it needed a new one as it sat idle for 7 months while I was in Iraq. The second time I was right near the base mechanic so a few friends pushed me over there and as soon as I got to their lot she started right up. That was roughly 2 1/2 months ago. Yesterday same situation dead in the covered garage of my complex. I have electrical power, as the radio time has not been reset. I also have the orange check engine light. Anyone seen this? Any help would be appreciated.

That "won't turn over phrase" has always been a problem for me since it doesn't really say what is happening. Do you mean the starter motor turns the engine over normally but the engine just doesn't start? Or do you literally mean the engine isn't being turned over by the starter motor so the starter isn't even working?
Hopefully you have already removed the battery cables, cleaned both them and the battery posts, and resecured them tightly if the starter motor isn't even turning the engine over.

I am unsure about the starter motor or the engine as I am learning the ropes with vehicles. I have taken off the battery cables and reattatched them. I followed some of the older posts and went looking for a code. I received the word done, 4 different times and the light never went out. Did I do something wrong?

sounds like it could be the starter.
Since you said some buddies pushed you to the mechanic and then it started.
Next time it doesnt start. put it in neutral and roll a foot in either direction. Then try again. Or you could get underneath it and give the starter a wack with a hammer, then try.

So I went outside moved the Jeep 2 feet backwards and sure enough started right up. So we can assume now I need a new starter??? If so is this an easy fix and how much should it cost me? Thank you guys for all the help.

umm like 75 for the starter and 10 mins of your time.

Like I said I am not a mechanic at all. Is this something I really can fix or is it something I need to take to a mechanic? I am in Hawaii so everything normally costs double for parts.

Yes you can fix it with a 10 dollar socket set. Disconnect your battery. Climb under the jeep the starter is the bell housing. Take out I think 3 bolts to it. Un bolt the wires too it slide the new one in its place bolt it in hook wires back up to it and your done.

I replaced my starter under similar circumstances only to find out that the problem was my neutral safety switch. Good luck.

Well it has been running all day with multiple times turning it on and off so I am going to use the wait and see what happens. maybe someone at work I know is more of a starter expert than me.
