body lifts love them hate them

i like body lifts for several reasons
1.cheap effective extra lift
2.with the installation of a body lift
it sure makes it easier to access bell houseing
bolts header bolts,it makes work on hard to reach
places better.sure they have a negative cosmetic
look but most of that can be covered up.with
a 4in to 6in suspension and 2 to 3 in body lift
you can up 39 in tires.my 35 mudking measure
a true 35.2 in diameter new.my 35's look
small with 3 in body and 4.5 in suspension:cool:neo

Nothing wrong with a 1". And for some even a 2" is okay. The issues that begins to happen are things like fuel lines, AC lines, wires, etc..get close to their max expanded length with higher body lifts. Along with the added stress with a now longer bolt and spacer, bad things can happen when your going down the trail. It takes less force for the longer Bl to bend vs. the shorter version. Also as far as running 39's there is a lot more than lift needed.

this should be a poll

i hate them with a passion, but mainly asthetically. i think they're hideous, and i'd never use one.

1" is ok, but i'd never do it, and anything more is obnoxious to me. thats just me.

i don't like them on older jeeps either, weaker tubs, more stress on the body. and yes, longer body bolts are gonna be weaker.

i just hate the gap between the frame and body.

yes but the gap makes it easier to access stuff,i rolled my 79 toyota and the body lift never shifted,i been using them on every 4x4 i have ever had coupled with a suspension lift for over 20 years now and have never had not one single problem:cool:neo

I have a 2" BL for sale. Brand new in the box. I guess I have to hate em. :)

Hate 'em. Aesthetically there's nothing one can do to make them look attractive in my eyes.

I like em. I have a 2", I had a 2" also on my 73 chevy c-10. As for the gap. I like that look. The back of the jeep that has the gap can be fixed. Just use some diamond plate. They already make them for the tail gate, just use that and lower it a bit to cover the gap. I do understand about the weakness of them! But i have to say, i was in a bad crash with my 73, the body lift did not budge. I believe it even helped me-Keeping me up higher then the other car.

I dont care for the gap but it is a good quick lift option. There is a guy I always see at The Rush and he has a 3" body lift and what look to be about 6" shackles. maybe bigger idk. Looks horrible

i am a huge fan of a body lift as long as that is what you have to use to clear tires.....for the most part manufacturers dont make coils much longer than what i have(re 5.5s)....i know skyjacker makes 8" kits but the fact is my jeep sets higher than on an re 5.5 than my buddys skyjacker 8".....anyhow....for a while i ran those springs and a 3" body lift to clear 39s and it did but was a little tipsy and i always was driving on two tires on my side so i decided to take 2"s out of the body lift and see if it would work.......it did and now i can lift a front tire 47"s of the ground before another lifts when before i could only get 38"s......so you are reading this and thinking it is pointless gibberish but that 2"s bave me almost 10"s mor flex and a whole lot better piece of mind considering my daughter is clost to wheeling age....my main point is not that the body lifts are bad due to the stress on body mount bolts but they cause you to be top heavy when you dont need to be.......bang for the buck you can clear 33s and have a sweet multipurpose wheeler.....anything past that i think they are no good over a 1"......also i dont think the looks are that bad but i drive an old dodge diesel everday that rides like crap so im not a good reference

I'm not a big fan of the 3 plus inch body lift. I personally have a 1" BL on my rig to provide a little extra tire clearance. Matter of fact the Daystar pucks I have now are a helluva lot stronger than the stock pucks.

ya, you can take it off.

i don't like body lifts much either. a 1" or less is ok, but anything 2" or more is just ridiculous.

I prefer suspension lifts myself. When I had an XJ people would be like do you have a body lift on it? I said no you cant put a body lift on a Cherokee it doesnt have a frame . That statement was usually followed with DUMBASS! Sometimes I just shook my head at them :nonono:.
