New to this forum
Back in my BC days (that's Before Children), my now ex-husband and I had a red w/ black hardtop CJ. I loved that Jeep, and it worked great with one child in a car seat, but when the twins came along, we had to have something that could haul all the stuff that you don't dare leave home without when you have three children under the age of four. Reluctantly we traded it in for a mini-van. Now that the kids are grown and on their own, I didn’t need that big of a car, so about a year ago I bought my very first "all mine" car, one I’d been dreaming of for at least 15 years. I bought a "new to me" 1992 YJ, which is also red with a black hardtop---and lots of rust.
In my typical, impulsive fashion, I didn’t have either of my mechanic friends look at before I bought it. Their advice (after the fact) was to try to get my money back. Well, that didn’t happen, and I am now in the very s—l—o—w process of replacing virtually everything. Fortunately they're still my friends, so they’re helping me out when they can. Mechanically, it's pretty sound, other than needing an oil change now.
But I’m wondering, at what point does it no longer make sense to keep pouring money into it, considering that it’s my only car? (Please don’t say that was just before I handed the seller the cash!) And yes, I will be running that question past my friends as well.
