Observers in the Way

I have watched a ton of YouTube videos of both amateur off roading and professional off roading events. Why do people seem to always stand in the way of the approaching Jeep? I understand the desire to get a good view, but I don't understand the need to stand directly in the path of the vehicle. Some of the roll overs I have seen seem to be caused by the driver popping up the side of a rock wall and even though he or she has a good line, they have to alter that line because some dumbass is standing there.

Are you referring to the spotters? Or the people who are watching the action. Spotters have to be in front of the vehicle to guide the driver over obstacles. There are cases of some spotters who are novices that cause damage because they don't know what they are doing. But most spectators are told to get out of the way by most spotters to avoid driver confusion, as there is only one spotter, not several trying to guide the driver through obstacles. Yes, there are several instances where spectators get in the way, either to try to get a better view, or take pictures.

If some dumbass was in the way of the line I wanted to take it would be him moving and not me.

Nope. I was referring to the spectators. However, in the home movies, it seems all of the spectators are spotters and all of them have an idea of how to traverse an obstacle.

And out here in the desert races this is how some dumb asses get themselves killed because they stand right next to or on the race course as the 80 mph trucks come screaming by. Not too easy to avoid a person under these conditions. :pullinghair:
