Mean old pitman arm...

I'm putting a 4 inch lift on my uncles TJ, everything is going pretty well, but i'm at the point where i need to swap the pitman arms. Other then cutting it off, does anyone know the best way to remove it? Thanks, B

why are you changing pitman arms? you didn't buy one of those bottom shelf crappy lift kits that tells you to install a drop pitman arm, did you?

no need to change the pitman arm. in fact, if you do, you'll have some lovely bumpsteer and poor driveability characteristics.

Understanding simple geometry will save you a lot of headaches.

Two tools for servicing pitman arm, with one used for the drop version.

If your uncle is skeptical about the advice here, you should post a pic of your steering linkage. You will get more feedback as to why you are good without the DPA.

future reference ... you can rent a pitman arm puller for about 15 from local autoparts store chain .... but don't use it to install a drop arm

don't mess around with the cheap arm puller. Get the super heavy duty one.
>>tighten it as tight as you can.
>>smack the screw of the puller, <on the head> with a large hammer.
>>repeat.
after a day of messing with mine, some guy gave me that advice and it popped off in 2 tightenings.
