I Want To Change My Rearend Oil.

What weight should I use? Do I use the same weight in the front & rear? Do I need to use limited slip addative in the rear, front, both or neither? I have a 98 TJ,4cyl, automatic.
Thanks

Yes, you can use the same weight front and rear. And unless your rear axle has a Tracloc limited slip differential, you don't need the friction modifier limited slip additive. The front axle definitely will not. As an aside, most off-the-shelf gear lubes suitable for axles already contain the additive anyway so it's usually not necessary to add the additive separately when you do have the Tracloc LSD.

Go for a good brand of GL-5 gear lube, the viscosity is not critical. 70W-80, 75W-90, etc. is fine. Personally, I prefer a non-synthetic gear lube for my axles because recent tests by some axle manufacturers like Currie have found that the gears inside typically run cooler in a non-synthetic gear lube. :)

Just wondering why you stated that "the front axle definitely will not"? I have a LSD Trac-Loc in the rear as well as the front. Great for the climbing, not so good in the snow through!

Not questioning your statement, just wondering to know more.

Only if you added a Tracloc to the front do you have one there. I didn't know they even made a Tracloc LSD that would fit the front Dana 30 axle. Jeep has never included any kind of LSD in any of their front axles. :)
