Ebay Tire Carrier.... Yeah Im gonna do it

:atomic::atomic:

After looking, reading, looking and reading some more.. I decided Im gonna give this a whirl

Spyder Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier for 07-13 Jeep Wrangler JK | TruckandWinch.com

Its on Ebay for $480 and free shipping.

I was going to go with the Teraflex hinge, but I like the extra stuff I can add to the Bumper/carrier combo.. fuel cans and baskets.

I know they are a spin off, I know of the poor coating or scratches, and the sh*tty instructions. But I am mechanically inclined and that stuff is not an issue. I also plan on coming up with a way to have it open with the tailgate.

You might have to unlatch it still, but at least you wont have to move it out of the way prior to opening the gate.

If anyone is running one, feel free to give opinion.

I know there are much better, but and cant do $1000-$1500 for a bumper/ carrier combo.

For the money I save, I can ditch my spacer lift and go with Teraflex 2.5 spring lift:happyyes:

I know it's all about "it's your Jeep, due what makes you happy".

But there are a lot of folks that probably do use those bumpers or is interested in them, but no one mentions them cause their not the "name brand $1300" ones

I'll give my review once ordered and it's in my garage

Would love to see the outcome.

I work with a few guys that have those bumpers. I would almost say they are the same as the smittybilt xrc. I am not certain though. I will compare them tomorrow at work and see. I will say that they do look good at first glance. How well are they built though is beyond me....

I was thinking about getting the teraflex carrier also, but this might be a nice option.

Can't wait to see some before and after shots.

It is great, and this is a no shot story. I have one and it is perfect, clean welds, nice powdercoat and best price around! Helped neighbor put a warm on his wife's new rubi a few weeks ago, fit like shit, had to use washers on driver side to space same as passenger? Welds still had mig weld wire hanging that made it all way through powdercoat, and edges were jagged and not ground down! Don't fret the spider and sell it short, it is solid, well built and a quality part not paying for a name!

My only dislike is the swing away carrier is not a bearing type fitment.

3PedalMINI 09-21-2013 10:52 PM

that looks great!

was it complete bolt on?

Would you trust the hitch? I might just order it this week :D

zuber 09-21-2013 11:01 PM

I installed a warn elite bumper and tire carrier today and it is really nice. I know this looks like a great option and it might be. I have no defects in my product, but for $500 bucks what's the worst that could happen for you... I do like a low price, but I like having a carrier that you can open the back gate and the carrier just rides along. I will be interested in this product to recommend to fellow jeepers.

The hitch is more solid than the tow pkg hitch, this bumper bolts to frame rails and cross member, where the one that comes with the jeep only to cross member. Complete easy bolt on, did it solo in about 2 hrs.

awesome thanks man! that deal on ebay is pretty good :)

Thanks for sharing!

Since i didnt get a tow package on my rubicon and need to get a hitch anyway this is the perfect solution

I have one as well.

I started a show thread awhile ago. The only thing I did was bedline it and take the bracket to a welder. I bought 3 new wheel studs for 30 bucks and had a welder replace the studs. The ones on the bracket don't seem too sturdy. All in all I love the freakin thing

Those modifications was something I was planing on doing if needed. Plus come up with a way to connect it to the tailgate for easy operation.

I know I can buy bumpers to where you don't need to do anything like the mentioned above. But all that isn't a deal breaker for me since the cost is around $500

gr8fulKID 09-22-2013 01:19 AM

^ I hear ya.

I remember reading somewhere that the rugged ridge tire carrier linkage kit was unable to work with this out of the box, but im pretty sure you can alter it to work if your handy.

I actually talked to them if it was built in house a few weeks ago. Designed here and made in China, but just about anything under $800 is.

My only worry is if those integrated receiver hitches are tow rated.

Anyone else think those pictures make the bumper look really asymmetrical and bad quality?

I don't know.. Saw a vid of a guy showing the feature off of his. Looked decent enough.

I did see a AEV one on the road few days ago. Was behind the guy and was wondering what was "off" about the rear of his jeep. The carrier is closer to the passenger side. That would drive me crazy.

bill9274 09-22-2013 10:41 AM

I have not seen the ebay bumpers but my son has a yj he put the e auto grill flatfenders corner guards with tube fenders on at the first of the summer his buddy ordered the same set up from smittybilt for about $450 more and we helped him install. They were they same thing made in the same factory only changes were some of the fasteners

New2012JEEP 09-22-2013 11:10 AM

Gotcha, it just seems like the hitch is really off center or even crooked, might be the monitor I am using.

If it is my pics your referring to I can assure you the receiver is centers and not off, just because something is not big name and cost mega bucks does not make it crap!
