I am a long time Jeep owner ('77 FJ Chief, '98 XJ Rockcrawler) but I have always wanted a CJ. I have a opportunity to trade my 1998 Chevy K3500 dually for a rust free (really, I am also a aircooled VW owner so I know how to find rust) '79 CJ-7 running a 9" lift and 35" tires. I don't have a need for a huge dually (all I haul is my 35lb dog)
I am just wondering what issues I need to look for

the biggest thing to worry about is rust. if it is rust free, you are off to a very good start. i would also make sure that the frame is straight and in good shape.

why does it have 9" of lift for 35's? What kind of lift. Also the 79 would be a narrow track, which means the tires will tuck in side the body. I like the wider axles which where early 80's versions.

According to the owner it has a 4" skyjacker lift, 3" body lift and a 2" shackle lift. I am going to go do the trade today, I drove it on Friday and the only issue that I would need to correct is buying a longer clutch rod since the owner just welded another rod to it and it sometimes catches when I push the clutch in

I would recommend to replace the body lift, with a 1" or stock spacers.

The 1st thing I am going to do is remove the body lift, since after checking it again it doesn't look like I will have any issues running 35's without it
