bigger tires = definite handling differences
 
I threw on 31's last week after having 235's since i bought my jeep 2 years ago. it looks so much better, especially with an 11.5 width, however, when i hit the highway for the most part i feel like the handling hasn't changed at all(sticking around 60-65mph), but then out of the blue she pulls to one side or the other. given the state that i live in, to find an even highway is pretty tough. so i'm assuming that given the wide width and short wheel base, when those tires hit an uneven path of concrete they just want to keep on that track and go nowhere else. is that a plausible theory?

Tires were mounted & balanced on new soft 8's, i haven't done a front allignment yet... so i'm thinking that once the allignment is done see what goes on then and then go from there....

so anyone whose had this experience, i'd love to hear some feedback or advice!!:D

Yes when you go wider in tires it will pull with the road. I had a littleissue with that on the mustang.Nothing you can fix. Well yea you can by driving on better roads :D

Check the tire pressure. All 4 should be the same and probably about 29-32 PSI for those tires.

no reason for a alignment unless it was pulling before

I dunno if I agree with stevens on that one just yet. Take it to a road you know is flat and test it there first.

well that's why i was contemplating not doing the alignment, i can ride on a straight road w/o touching the wheel for about 75-100 yds going about 35mph before i begin to lean to a side.

if it leans to the right going down a road at a certain spot, turn around and drive in that same lane in the opposite direction and it should pull to the left. make sure no one is coming at you as you are driving wrongway down lane, then you would have an airbag problem!

I've read that steel wheels can sometimes not be completely round. That would probably cause more of a wobble than pulling to one side though

Are you getting vibrations? When I put my summer tires and wheels on my Yukon, she finds every groove in the pavement.. Winter tires, not so much.. I think you are cool on all accounts, you just need to get used to driving it.. If you are getting vibrations, then you may have a wheel out of round, but more than likely it will be a balancing issue.. If no vibrations are present, you are good to go!

It's gotta be the wide tires. Thats alot of rubber on the road and the jeep dosen't have enough a** to compensate. If you say you go 75-100 yards and it starts to lean or veer to one side is it at the same section of road or can you correct and it happens again 75-100 yards down?

ya that's what my friend and i were discussing yesterday at camp (lakehouse to all of you non-mainer's). there aren't any vibrations, so i don't feel as if the tires aren't balanced properly. I think i just gotta get used to it and try to ride on the most even line of asphalt i can.

well its kinda both. everyday after work i come home on I-95 its a 55mph zone, i usually got about that. then everyday at the same spot, which is a straight-a-way in the right lane i get pulled close to the passing lane. the right lane is uneven and cracked at that spot. I havent had a chance to ride in the left lane yet, everyone is always passing me. haha. But then when i hit an even straight-a-way i'll be fine for 80yds or so with no tilting, straighten the wheel and then the same thing will happen.

You should probably go back to your old tires, and send those to me. I will put up with a little pulling and let you know if it becomes a problem.

I'll need the soft 8's too.

haha, i'm not complaining about my set up at all. i just wanna make sure i'm taking care of her right and know what to expect when making new changes. thanks for the offer.:D
