Califonia top

I have a 94 yj, it has a old bestop super top on it. I am looking to replace it. Has anyone delt with top from califonia tops. What do you think of them or other softops. I would like a frameless top like the califonia top, any one using a frameless top?

California Tops probably has one of, if not the worst reputation of all after market Jeep people. Stay far far away. That guy is freaking lunatic.

If you're looking for a frame less soft top look at the Viking Fastback. I've had one for a couple of years now and it has held up fine.

97-06 TJ Wrangler Soft Tops : Red Rock 4x4

or

Viking Soft Tops, convertible top, fast back, safari top

Except that they don't make tops for a YJ which is the OP's rig.:banghead: (At least from their web site listings.)

Ahhh I missed that. He'd be better of going without than risk getting screwed.

You know, I am kinda partial to Bestop tops

But also check out Pavement Ends. Same engineering, slightly lighter fabric, and cheaper.

You might also be able to get a Bestop Replace-A-top, and reuse the hardware.

But there's a reason quality tops cost some buck - whether they're from us or Viking.

If you just like that extreme fastback style, well, you must have shorter dogs than me.

Cheers!

a few years back my husband had the fastback top for his yj. he didn't have any problems with it and it seemed like a solid top, but they do have a bad reputation so i'd be careful. IMO, i'd go with the viking top.

Thanks for all help. I think I am just going to buy a new Bestop. Now super top or flip top?

whiteyj 06-01-2009 06:38 PM

Decisions.....decisions.....That flip top is knid of tempting. I have a full length safari rack on top so out of the question for my rig. The Bestop sail cloth top has been one solid top for me.

where are you located. I have a california top for a yj, bought it for a 90 a few years back and sold it before I tried the top out. Saved the top and just got another yj but it has the slopped rear roll bar so the top will not work. I live in the Pacific NW if your close you could come look and make me a reasonable offer. I believe I have all the hard ware that goes with it also. Even have the quilted winter liner for it. Its very well built even compared to best top I think having seen both. Zippers are top quality and the material is thicker than the best top I have with the new 90.
