Try moving the door in an opening and closing motion as you lift upward. At least that's how I used to get my old CJ doors off.

Ursine 06-03-2009 08:28 PM

They are a bitch to get off, period. I looked like a freakin' body contortionist trying to unplug the wiring harness.

Try tapping the bottom of the door with a mallet.

They are heavy as $%^#@ with the window motors and everything else.... I nearly crapped myself the first time not expecting the weight

I don't know about door removal...but I do know I would like to see more pics of your ride...if that's it as your avatar.

I always lower the window, place an arm inside and grab the door handle. Then I shift the door open/closed until the door slides off the hinge. If your tall enough it makes it so much easier lift the doors straight up.

cwood , go to sticky at top of forum "lift reviews" and theres a couple of pics in my review. i will try to get some new pics because the ones posted do not show the rubi with the extra daystar spacers and the procomp lightbar and 8" kc lights installed.

Exactly how i do it.

Try opening it about halfway or so- it helps for some reason- Mark W.

ballzout4 06-04-2009 04:52 PM

get as close to the hinge as you can because if you try from the middle it puts force from the side on those pins so get to the front of the door grab the bottom of the door and the top of your open window area and raise it strait up

johnybolt 06-06-2009 03:51 PM

I used NEVER SEIZE lube on door pins after finaly getting them off. Came off easy next time.

My front doors came off easy. The rear doors I had to really pull up and work the door back and forth to get them off. At first I thought the pins were stuck in but eventually they started to come out. When I put them back on I greased all the pins so hopefully it will be easier next time.

ive got the back doors to come off but the fronts are being stuborn.i will keep working at them, thanks for the help.

ive removed my doors for the first time yesterday and they were relativley easy but quite heavy
study the hinge mechanism a bit . what you were doing was all correct except for one thing . open the doors half way , the doors are shaped around the hinges . and pull up on the door close to the hinge . I grabbed the inner door handle and the bottom of the door . used body weight to anchor the door off .
hope this helps .
now i have a question . Do i need mirrors ?

Only if you want to see behind you and not get a ticket. :D

xxxxxxxxdavem 07-11-2010 06:31 PM

we just had the doors off again for a week and were in down town pittsburgh on the 4th of july for a pirate ball game and had passed several cops that day and on the highway going down and back and i have no outside mirrors on and no problems here.you dont realise how much you actually use your out side mirrors till there not there, i was quite suprised.

Another "stuck" door thread??? It's like a new "how do you ge the doors off" thread once a week. A year and a half without taking them off?? Your jeep is pissed at you for that. Your Jeep is punishing you....it wanted the doors off a long time ago!! By the way..mine are so happy to come off they almost jump out the hinges when I unbolt them. On or off like butter in about 10 minutes.

joed4x4 05-02-2013 04:05 PM

take a 1x3 2-3 ft long -with the door open 5-6"
place the 1x3 between the door bottom and sill gently pull up on 1x3 when door starts to come up spray wd40 in hinge. You will only have to do that the first time.

dalearyous 05-02-2013 04:10 PM

wd40 the hinges and move them back and forth?

You created an account to post a complicated way to remove the doors in a 3 year old thread? lol thanks for the tip...
