Hidden Falls- Texas
i went this weekend and checked out hidden falls, up around marble falls. its kind of a smorgasbord of stuff. they have trails for atvs, a gun range, paintball, horseback riding, and full size trails. all i was interested in was the full size trails. the main downside to the place is they lock the gate at 8pm on friday. since i didnt realize this until it was too late to make it by 8pm, this was the first of many problems on a plagued trip.

anyway, we finally were able to get in. the camping amenities were very nice. they had rv sites, regular camp sites, and camp sites with water/electrical hookups. there was also a public restroom/shower facility that was very nice.

onto the important stuff: The Trails!
the trails were decent (from what i saw-more on that later). i would have liked to have seen more rocks. the trails were pretty good, but there was only 1-2 good obstacles per trail. We ran level 3 trails

LEVEL 1 - OK for stock trucks (2wd & 4wd) These are the only 2wd drive trails
LEVEL 2 - More difficult but still OK for stock trucks or slightly modified trucks
LEVEL 3 - Not for stock trucks - Requires 35" + tires and lockers, stock trans. ok
LEVEL 4 - For highly modified vehicles 38" + tires, lifted, lockers, rock crawl gearing
LEVEL 5 - For extremely modified vehicles 40" + tires, lifted, lockers, rock gearing
i had no problems and would have liked to try a 4, but this was my friend's maiden voyage after his lift and he was still getting used to his rig.

there was more mud than i care for, but thats mother nature's fault, not the trails :D

after about 3 hours my friend's front main brakeline sprung a leak. we limped back to camp and i removed the rear one and put it on the front, hoping we could salvage a few more trails. with just front brakes, the pucker factor went up, but it was stopping pretty well. we decided to run an easy one to see how it did. after that is when my tranny started bouncing like a $20 lady of the night and i knew transmission failure was imminent, so we packed it up and called it a day. i dont have any pics worth a damn. my dad was my co-pilot but he was dealing with a bum hip, so he wasnt in and out a whole lot.

heres the few pics i got:

it was hot as hell, so my jeep kept on trying to rest in the shade

breaking camp, realized we had no pics to show, so did a poser shot of our two broken rigs :flipoff:

the casualty

i plan to go back again. i will take friday off of work next time to avoid the headache that was rushing only to be too late anyway. i want to see more trails and they are still cutting new ones as well. the trails weren't the most extreme i had been on, but it was enough to scratch my itch (or it would have been if i had got a full day in). after a better trip not cursed from the beginning, i can give a better overall report. hopefully next month, we'll see.

From the website it looks like some of the higher rated trails were pretty good. We need to make a run up there and hook up before summer is out. I may have some time in August or September do make a non-Jamboree run.

I wish! It's more like work, work and work while I'm sleeping.

How was the camping? A friend and I are wanting to find a place to camp, fish and try some trails. We are both new to offroading. Im hoping that someone can help us find some places around the dfw...

My jeep is still stock and My friend has a new fj cruiser.. I hope some one can help us out. thanks

camping facilities were pretty nice. we stayed in an "improved site" that had electric and water. i didnt see their plain camp sites. I'm not sure if they had anything in the way of fishing though
