Might have finally found an engine/tranny to swap in
In the never ending search for a cheap way to get rid of my AX5, I've been scouring the web for all the info I can find.

I've also been looking for cheap donor vehicles for either a compatible tranny, or a whole vehicle to swap engine/tranny/etc.

One of the things that caught my eye was the abundance of GMC/Chevy 4.3/4L60E equipped trucks for sale around me. After doing some 'net research, there seems to be support out there for this swap. Mounts and adapters are available.

Going with my "cheapness", I've been looking to swap my Dodge pickup for something rather than spend cash. I found a '95 Jimmy that may just fit the bill. I'm going to go look at it tomorrow. If it starts/runs well, shifts well/has bright tranny fluid, and has good compression on all 6 cylinders, I'm going to get it.

The only thing I can't do myself is weld, but if I can find a used welder, I'll learn how to do that. Otherwise, there is a shop down the road that will weld in the new mounts for me pretty cheap.

Two questions:

1)Do any of you know someone who has made this swap?
2)Any feedback on Novak Conversions?

I had a 4.3 in my last cj however I decided to go with the th350 trans on mine as I really don't like the electronic transmissions that are available these days, as I tensd to spend alot of time in mud/water holes :banghead:. I really like the swap and it ran really well torque was abundant and parts were cheap. I used the novak motor mounts and adapter for the d300 tcase and also a painless wiring harness to get it running turned out fine and never gave me any trouble on the trails.

Been gone for a while, but back now with a new computer.

I've got the motor for my swap, but it's not a GM one. I'm taking the 318 out of my 88 Ramcharger and putting it in. I'd like to use the 727 if it will fit. The 727 has a 23 spline output, so I'll need to get a different transfer case cause the one in my YJ is 21 spline. If the 727 just won't work, I'll get a 435.

I don't expect it to be a quick, simple swap. As a matter of fact, I'm not even starting till December cause I want to have plenty of money to do things right. I cut deer in Oct and Nov, so this will give me the money I need. The first purchase will be a decent 220v welder. Once I learn to weld, I'll start on the actual swap.

I'll be pulling the 318 soon though and making sure it's nice and tight.

For those who may be interested, I'll post up when I do things related to the swap.

By the way, I know there are probably cheaper options out there, but this has become a winter project. I have another truck to drive while the Jeep is laid up, so if I run low on funds, I can wait a few weeks till I'm in the black.

defanilty intrested want to put a mopar 360 on mines with my toque flight 999 after i fix it , cant wait to see those pics
