Buy New - full tank of gas from the dealer??

I've bought 10 vehicles in the past at other places and this was the first time the dealership didn't send me off with a full tank? The invoice even says you're paying for 5 gallons.

Is this normal for Jeep, or did I make them mad with my deal at $4500 below MSRP?

56cbr600rr 10-01-2013 12:39 AM

I almost got the same deal. I got a tank of gas. They prolly forgot...

Marthor 10-01-2013 12:45 AM

They didn't forget. It was on E in the test drive and 1/4 tank driving off. They gave me 5 gallons.

2five22 10-01-2013 02:26 AM

Some do and some do not. Always ask prior to signing if it is a concern to you.

I guarantee they made a decent profit off of you.

Castrejo 10-01-2013 02:58 AM

I got just enough diesel to get me to the service station.
Since they made 45k off of me, you would think they would be kind enough to send me off with a tank full costing around $100.......

That is fu@king bull$hit. What dealer was this? Put them on blast!

MrSig 10-01-2013 03:09 AM

My 07 came with a full tank! My wife's 13 came with a full tank too. Must be some thing up by you.

southpaw75 10-01-2013 03:23 AM

Mine came with a full tank also. The dealerships policy is new vehicles is a full tank, used is half.

I've never heard this before in my lIfe. Are you saying this applies to every dealership nationwide? If so I know of many that aren't following the "rules".

dgsholar 10-01-2013 03:28 AM

My '14 JKUR came with 12 gallons, salesman said he was being generous, only supposed to be 10. Wow....

Castrejo 10-01-2013 03:30 AM

Guess it comes down to the dealership and their policies. Like i stated before i received my 2012 jku (brand new at the time) on empty

DIXIEDOG 10-01-2013 03:31 AM

Mine was full....never bought a new vehicle that didn't come with a full tank. They don't want you to know how bad they are on fuel until the 3 day cool down period is over.:lmao:

Thats a great call :)
My 2011 Jeep Cherokee (liberty in the usa) was a MASSIVE guzzler. My JKU on diesel is much better :) Its a shame they don't offer it to American consumers...

Knuckles65 10-01-2013 04:32 AM

Only 5 gallons when I took delivery here too. First time I've bought a new vehicle (and I've bought over 25 in my life) that it wasn't a full tank.

Frustrating? Yeah, but in the big picture, it's not a big deal. I'd rather put quality fuel in it instead of the crap they put in it anyway. (I watched him drive it to the "cheap crap gas station" before he delivered it.)

CoHoJoe 10-01-2013 04:38 AM

I got a full tank but I asked

redbilly 10-01-2013 05:17 AM

My 2011 JK was full when I drove it off the lot for the first time. My wife and I bought an 09' Volkswagen that same year (certified used), and it had a full tank too. Used or new, if the dealer wants you to come back, this is just a good policy to have.

Peter T 10-01-2013 05:54 AM

My invoice had $25 gas. They charged me for my own gas. Had to drive to the first station to fill it up.

michiganadam 10-01-2013 06:06 AM

They ship from the factory with 5 gallons. Thats why its on the invoice. Thats on every jeep invoice. It could potentially cause a weight problem in shipping, a full truckload of jeeps with full tanks would have 160 gallons onboard....

A salesman a while back told me that they have all their cars on the lot on empty usually because people try to siphon gas out of the cars at night. Every dealer in my area has the cars on empty, unless they are recent trade ins and the previous owner left a lot in it...

If the dealer fills it up, youre paying for it. Chances are youre paying about 400 for "pre delivery prep". It better be full then....

I bought a motorcycle from a local dealer the other week and they even filled it up. With 3 gallons of gas......lol.

WOODIII 10-01-2013 06:08 AM

He only wanted to put $25 in mine after pleading how ridiculous this was he put in $40...lol I couldn't believe it. i bought my wife's Durango last year and they filled that one. I wasn't impressed.

MTNJeep 10-01-2013 06:14 AM

Full Tank, no charge, Didn't have to ask.

Did they charge you for pdi and did you pay under or over invoice?

InnocentMinx 10-01-2013 06:19 AM

I bought mine a few weeks ago and even requested them to add gas. It was a test drive and take it home that night kind of deal. However, they failed to add gas and sent me home on empty. I was a little annoyed about that....

MBeshada 10-01-2013 06:25 AM

I purchased my 13 in April. Walked off the lot over about $800. They called me back and said they would give me what I wanted. I said I would think about it and call them back in the morning. They called back the next morning, gave me the $800 off the price and gave me $300 more for my trade. I told them I would take it and get over when I had the chance. When I got there, no Jeep! I asked where it was and the salesperson said they were filling the tank. It was the only thing I didn't have to negotiate! That was Pearson in Richmond, VA.

DANNY-L 10-01-2013 06:27 AM

Didn't have to ask. Dealer handed me the keys and told me it had a full tank. Same as the wifes jeep a couple years ago.

fp8950 10-01-2013 06:36 AM

took delivery of my 2014 about a month ago. Was very surprised to see a 100% full tank. My dealer takes care of us. That's why my brother, my sister and law, my best friend, and myself have all purchased vehicles from them.

Vt rider 10-01-2013 06:53 AM

My dealer delivered my '13 Wrangler with a full tank and 5 wheel locks installed at no cost to me.

staticattic 10-01-2013 06:57 AM

Bought my Oscar Mike in December, it had a full tank. My wife's Sahara should be on the lot in 2 weeks, hopefully that will have a full tank as well. When I bought my daughter a used car from the local Toyota dealership when she graduated high school, it came with a little more than a quarter of a tank. When I asked the salesman, he stated a full tank of gas is only something they do for new vehicles.

benzat 10-01-2013 07:01 AM

i had to pay 50$ and they paid the rest which came up to 65-70$ ( yeah almost 120$ to fill up in canada ) i thought that was ridicules because i never paid for a tank of gas before and i bought many cars !!

mudpup 10-01-2013 07:10 AM

you made them mad.
Luckily they did not slash your tires.

oh the humanity.

azrael 10-01-2013 09:22 AM

dealer filled mine up for the test drive. drove it 45 minutes around town. he topped it off again while i was signing papers then gave me a coupon for a free tank on my next fill up.

after i talked them down almost 6k & drove my trade in around for a long time to use up the gas in it's tank prior to driving on the dealer lot. made sure the warning light was on when i parked it.
