16" or 17"

Another stupid wheel question... On a JK which weighs less a 16" stock steel wheel or a 17" aluminum rubicon wheel?

Thanks in advance

Only guessing but I would say the 17" aluminum wheel. In my experience most aluminum wheels are quite a bit lighter then steel when you compare the same size wheels.

That said the 16" to the 17" I would still think that the 17" aluminum would be lighter, maybe not by much but still lighter. Again just a guess...

Stock 16" steel weights about 25lbs.

Both are the same. The 16" wheel is steel which is heavier and causes the weight to be the same as a larger alloy wheel.

It's the tires that get you. Tires for 16" wheels are mostly LT D and E which is very heavy and hurts performance. 16" wheels are the LAST wheels I'll run from now on.

I'd do 15s, 17s, 18s, or 20s in that order if I had options.
