D44a?

What is this out of?

Grand Cherokee WJ...(99 to 04).

It is a Dana 44...the "a" is for aluminum. The center diff housing is aluminum.

distortedtj 06-18-2009 04:25 PM

Also it is not a direct bolt in for a tj. It is also weaker axle than the solid steel/cast iron Dana 44.

I have a 44 from factory, I picked up a locker and saw it so I was curious

run from that axle as far as you can. :D

distortedtj 06-18-2009 04:34 PM

No problem bud. They are good axles and can take a beating if trussed and built , but that is the same with any axle.

Not the d44a brotha. It's a shiatty setup. They will strip gears under load.

*cough* I said built...not factory.:p

But Yes I do agree with you I wouldn't waste my time or money with the axle.

Just not worth it.

Case deflection is such a problem on that axle that no amount of trussing or building can really save it. I'd rather have a D35 than the 44a.

I have the reg 44
