Although I like tube fenders if I had to choose I'd lean MCE.

I see Rusty's has a tube fender at a decent price. Any thoughts?
I'm looking at some for the near future.

Depends on your budget and how pricey the customs tag will add to them.
Metal cloak will give you a ton of clearance but pricey, smittybilt will be inexpensive, but the powdercoating will flake off. Any friends with a mig welder and you can buy a kit and build them yourself.

Wow I see you are from LaSalle. I grew up there and all my family are still in the area.

How difficult was that I've been considering it??

Slater451 10-06-2013 10:31 PM

Getting the angles right was the hardest part... I didn't have a tubing bender. But I just took my time.. They took me a couple months to build but they are way over built and are about the same weight as the stock fenders maybe a bit lighter.

fjul 10-07-2013 09:17 AM

Love the Smitty tubes and the Bestop Trektop NX.............LOL

I leaned MCE when their one piece 3" flared version came out a few years ago.
I have been very happy with them.
Lots of trees where I wheel took their toll on my stock fenders.

What brand are they? Front and back match?

MFsoftball22 10-07-2013 11:28 AM

Metalcloak are top shelf, tons of clearance, strong and dependable, but you have to be willing to pay the price for them.

I liked the Smitty Tube Fenders at first, but now I'm really not so hot on their style. If I had to buy today I would probably go with C&C Fab. They got some nice bolt on Tube Fenders and good prices with couple different sizes.

I think I am going to get some sort of aluminum corners with flairs that will provide more clearance with some tub cutting. Haven't decided which..PSC, Savvy, Genright?
One of these days when the budget allows.

In the meantime, my trimmed stockers are a close enough match....and free!

beaureed445 10-07-2013 04:12 PM

Here's my TJ with Poison Spyder DeFenders, Ricochet Rockers, and Crusher Flares.

jeepfever84 10-07-2013 06:14 PM

It's more of a pieced together lift...running 4.5" front coils with 3" rear coils and a1.25" body with a 1" mml...I've got a rear ford 8.8 axle, front chromoly shafts, and 4.88 gears. Also have adjustable track bars and control arms.

All in all about 5.5" lift

JFjeld 10-07-2013 09:39 PM

I also have the Smittybilt tubes. I've run these for several years and have not had one single problem with powdercoat, damage, etc. If money wasn't a factor, I would've gone with the MetalCloaks, but they're an acquired look. Here's the fenders in action (along with another shameless plug for Colorado:worthy:):

I just put the same fenders on my 2002 TJ, I really like them so far. I am in Colorado too.

Question; do you ever get questioned by law enforcement in Colorado because the fenders don't cover the tires enough?

amcgowen 10-07-2013 10:22 PM

I'm in Colorado with tube fenders too and from everything I've read there is no law in this state for fender coverage.

There "is" a fender coverage law but its not too highly enforced...

they primarily pull over for no rear flares (had a couple friends pulled over that way) but i've never been questioned with mine. Had them for about 2 years now.

I didn't think it was enforced very often. I've seen some pretty radical rigs on the road here in Colorado with little to no fenders.

Thanks!
