Half doors with out key lock

I have have 87 yj and the only key lock is the rear door it doesn't have key lock in the 1/2 door frame is this right? Did they make this year with and without door locks.

Both of the half doors in. Y '92 have locks. However I don't worry about locking them because I'd rather let someone just open the door as opposed to cutting the top to get in.

My 95 has locks in both half doors and tailgate, key matches the ignition.
Seems stupid tho its like putting a deadbolt lock on a tent.

when i paint my half-doors i'm welding the lock holes up. take what you want from the interior, but don't cut the damn top.

The half doors on my 93 have locks but someone gave me another set that don't have them. They look factory but I don't know what year they are from and the only difference between the two sets is the locks. I'm guessing your doors are factory and mine might be out of an 87 :)

My '88 doors are lockless.

YelloJ74 10-08-2013 09:29 AM

My 87 has no locks on the halfies.

My 91 yj has half doors and they have locks. It also matches the ignition key. The only thing that is different is the gas nozzle which has a separate fuel key.

If you are worried about the locks with the half doors, like the other guy said, just leave them unlocked if you have a soft top, someone will eventually cut through the softtop or break the lock on your door. just dont leave anything valuable in it unless you have an ammo box bolted to the floor with a lock mechanism.

The 87 models did not have locks on the doors except the tailgate

I'm new to the Jeep community since buying a used 88 YJ. It has full doors now but, I'd like to have half doors also. I couldn't find any on ebay, any ideas where I can search for a set of good used half doors at a decent price?

AutobotWrangler 10-10-2013 08:32 AM

craigslist... some junk yards still have doors but you need to check them thoroughly to find them

Locks on jeeps. sounds great for about half a second until reality kicks in and you realize that the lock will deter the thief for about half a second also.. Do yourself a favor and don't try to lock your jeep, just keep the valuables out of it if you have to leave it unattended outside.

I don't think they are worried about keeping people from reaching in, it's more for keep people from stealing the door itself

Locks on a Softtop is pretty useless.

I was going over my insurance stuff the other day and noticed the wife had put RoadSide assistance on both vehicles (I like it on hers cause she goes to visit her mama now and then 200 miles away). Anyways heres the conversation:

Me: Why did you put RA on my Jeep?
Her: Look at the benefits
Me: What benefits?
Her: Flat Repair
Me: I got a jack and spare
Her: Towing...
Me: I call A*** or Jer**** and they can help (both my close friends have car trailers)
Her: Dead battery.....
Me: Its a stick and doesn't weigh a whole lot
Her: What if you lock you keys in the car
Me <pointing at the Jeep with the Doors and top off) Seriously??

Djones2109 04-28-2014 12:54 AM

the locks are there to prevent the doors from walking off, not my stuff in the jeep. The doors are worth more than a stereo

Mowrangler 04-28-2014 05:45 AM

The locks on half doors will not prevent door theft, just cut the top reach inside and unlock the door and lift the door off the hinges.

Yea I was thinking from my perspective. I have sliding glass door tops and they don't lock. So pretty pointless from my perspective (slide window manually unlock)
