Roaring/Grinding Noise from Rear End

I've started noticing a grinding noise coming from my 99 Sahara wrangler. It doesn't do it all the time. It mainly does it when I am going down the road at around 20-50 mph and slightly or moderatley turn the wheel to the left. If I turn it to the right it mostly stops. Does any body have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it. I believe I have a Dana 35 in the rear.

Thanks for your help.

No idea why it would do it with stearing but have you rear fluid?

check your differentials fluid level. Mine did the same kinda crap. It would make a humming noise when moving slower, and would do it worse on slow turns. I took of the cover and refilled to proper level with clean oil and, new gasket never heard the noise again.

And do it sooner that later, all that noise is your rear diff getting all hot, and the grinding is your gears grinding up from improper lubrication.

If you are sure its from the rear, sounds like axle bearing is wearing out. If its from the front, then hub bearing. Either way, its on the passenger side most likely.

yeah I thought it was my bearings at first too but I tried the fluid first and that was the fix...cheaper and easier then a bearing job.

Just pull the plug and stick your pinky in the hole. If you can feel the fluid then like Wrusty said could be the bearings.

I checked the fluid. It seems fine. Do you think it would be the carrier bearings or the axle bearings?
