4.10's Unavailable on 2014 Ruby Manual?

I've just spent some time on the jeep.com sight trying to build a 2014 JK two-door Rubicon with a manual transmission. The sight indicates (to me at least) that the standard gearing for this vehicle is no longer 4.10. It is now 3.73. The 4.10 gearing is available with an automatic only.

So I did some research on this site as well as the internet in general and I'm getting conflicting information. Many say that the 4.10 gears are no longer available.

So does anyone know for sure what's going on with Rubicon gears? I definitely want a manual transmission but I sure wasn't counting on getting it with 3.73 gears!

4.10 are standard with a Manuel on the JKUR. That is why they are not an option.

hellhound94 10-13-2013 01:50 PM

But it was NOT a JKUR I tried to order, it was a JKR and when you go through the process, it automatically checks off 3.73. It shows 4.10 as an option but if you check the box it tells you that you MUST order an automatic transmission if you want 4.10 gears.

Not sure; just went to jeep.com (it was building a 2013 though) and 4.10 were standard with the manual and you are right that option changes when building a 2014. That website has had weird things about it before though. My 2014 has 4.10 with a manual so I would just wait for someone with a two door to chime in.

SL75 10-13-2013 03:10 PM

I ordered a 2 dr rubicon at the end of September. Manual transmission with 4.10. On the website, the rubicon x only has 3.73 option with manual. Maybe that is the only option on an x or the website is messed up.

panthermark 10-13-2013 03:53 PM

The website is messed up. It happens every year.

Now I'm starting to wonder what the reality is with a 2014 Unlimited Rubicon 6-speed as far as rear gears. I bought one a few weeks ago and just assumed they were 4.10. I just printed the window sticker from the http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/window...kerPdf.do?vin= for my Rubicon, and there is no mention of the rear gears anywhere in the "Standard Equipment" section and no option for gears, either.

I just went on the website and built a 2014 Rubicon Unlimited, and when you get to the Powertrain section, both 3.73 and 4.10 are listed, but 4.10 is checked by default, and the website won't let you check 3.73 with either transmission.

Is there a column in the VIN for rear gears? Or, is there a sticker or plate somewhere externally? Or am I going to have to go 60 mph in 6th and get the RPM's and compare to someone else?

It's 2013, not 1975. Have you considered getting the automatic?

The OP may just see that no other auto makers are producing 5 speed autos and would get a 6+ speed auto if they had one but jeep chose to stick with older tech on the new tranny

Plus the op may just like having a manual transmission and that's ok

F&^ck automatics, especially the archaic POS they put in the Wrangler... They are great if you don't know how to drive or only have one leg. Why do you think the autos have to have "Hill Descent Control?" Think about it.

It didn't show because it isn't an option it's standard on the 6 sp. If you had an auto and wanted 4.10 it would be an option over the 3.73 and it would show.

It would make a lot more sense to actually show the gears on the sticker. The transfer case isn't an option either, but it shows up under "Standard Features". On other vehicles with multiple gear choices (Example: Ford Mustang) they always show which gears are on the car, even if they are the standard ones.

I wonder how often Jeep salespeople are asked what gears are on a vehicle, and they have to just convince someone they are 4.10 or 3.73 or whatever. The fact that someone else on another similar thread actually called Chrysler and they didn't even know what gears were standard kind of drives home the point. I'm sure almost no one buying a Chrysler 200 gives a rat, but it is an important piece of information for Jeep owners.

This...if the auto box in the wrangler were at least 6 speeds, preferably more, I might have given it a passing glance. A 5-speed auto, what is this the 1990's?

kik 10-31-2013 10:45 AM

The web site has inaccurate info. every year for something. That's why there's a disclaimer. When/if you go to a dealer you'll get the most updated info. Hopefully.

co-utah 11-02-2013 07:59 PM

So just to help me with my paranoia over this, I ran at exactly 2000RPM in 6th today. I put the speedo on digital and it went back and forth between 56 and 57mph.

Stock 2014 Unlimited Rubicon, just a few hundred miles, stock tires.

Hopefully that matches others with 4.10 gears. Let us know if you differ.

Using this logic, shouldn't we all be driving Subaru Foresters and all have a BA degree in Gender Studies?

Ironically the Forester only has a 4 speed auto, up to 2014 anyway.

Actually, the 5 speed automatic they are using in the Wranger is darn near bullet proof. Built to handle way more power than the V6 is sending it. Also, same tranny is used in many very high priced luxury cars (Bently)
I'll take 5 dependaple proven gears over a gazillion speed unproven design any day.

So don't slam the auto, its a great tranny, but I understand the want for a manual, but not cause the auto is crap, cause its not.
If you want a manual, get it. its cool.

Not sure if this helps. I just bought a 2014 rubicon and the sticker said nothing about gears. I saw these in the owners manual. Is the "axle" column talking about the gearing you think ? I put the pics showing 2 door and 4 door ruby info.

Delta Lyons 11-07-2013 09:41 PM

I have a 14 two door rubi with a 6 speed and 4.10 gears.

breez78 11-07-2013 09:47 PM

Where do you find your gear info , Delta ?

hellhound94 11-10-2013 07:16 PM

FWIW the jeep.com website section which allows you to build your Jeep has been corrected. I tried it a little while ago and it now automatically gives you the 4.10 gears like it should have in the first place.
