My Weekend :-(

On Friday we drove to an offroad park in northern Germany. After only 5 minutes there my radiator exploded...

Saturday morning a friend brought me another radiator. After lunch it was installed.
Then after about 20 minutes this happened:

Another friend brought me home because we didnīt have all tools and spare parts there to fix it.

A friends Unimog needed 3 times to get me out of the hole...

Here at 5:32 you can hear the braking axle shaft:

Es tut mir leid dieses Missgeschick zu sehen.. :(
You know how they say -- bad luck always comes in 3's -- Let's just hope broken axle is worth 2 and means the end of it ;)
Oh and BTW -- almost the same thing happened to my stock radiator. So I had one custom fabricated in metal. Consider that one :)

I have had weekends like that too. Odd though that that shaft busted in mud like that. I would have thought the u-joint would go 1st.

nicolas-eric 08-04-2009 07:21 AM

The u-joint was only 2 weeks old..

I'd give up one of my kids for that Unimog. I had a single cab once, got in a bind for money and sold it. I've regretted it ever since.

Have you gotten the Rubicon back on the road yet?

nicolas-eric 08-04-2009 08:19 AM

No. We pulled it to a friend on a trailer. Ad tomorrow I will drive to the baltic sea for a week or so. After that I have the time to repair the front axle. I hope that I can do it by myself.

Just was not your day huh?

nicolas-eric 08-04-2009 08:37 AM

No that wasnīt our day...
At the weekend we had 2 damaged radiators, 2 radiator hoses, 1 axle shaft, 2 u-joints, 2 ball joints that hold the steering knuckle and many more...

damn that sucks!
Gotta say, that is a sweet Unimog!

Jeeper 08-04-2009 02:31 PM

skeeter 08-04-2009 02:46 PM

Wow, good luck getting it fixed.

tiny terror 08-04-2009 02:56 PM

Dang, Nico. Just dang. But, having known you on the forum for a while, I have faith it'll be nothing for you to fix it. Just a blip on the radar.
