YJ Hard Top Questions - thank you

I just purchased my first Jeep Wrangler in June and I love it! Unfortunately, a used vehicle comes with some flaws to fix so I've already had the exhaust manifold replaced, among other things. I'm also in the process of trying to find my head light problem (head lights flicker off while driving down the road).

Anyways, I'm taking my kindergarten daughter to school with me this year and would feel better about the winter weather if I had a hard top. I'm looking to purchase a used hard top. So here are the questions.

Do I only look for hard tops made for YJ's or TJ's or CJ's interchangeable with the YJ?

Does a hard top fit right onto the jeep without extra fittings or is there more to get than just a hard top?

thank you for taking the time to read my questions and I look forward to your responses and other topics.

i just bought a hardtop for my 89 wrangler. I had a softtop on there prior and had to remove the hard wear for connecting the softtop. From there it went on no problem. The hard to I bought is a bestop and it fit the 88-95 models.

Hardtops are NOT interchangeable.
You need to stick to model years 1997-2006.

for your 95 yj, i would look only for 87-95 hard top.

If you have a YJ its best to stay with it ,95 is the last year

When looking make sure it has the front
lip that the screws go through
also the front 2 corner need a rubber seal
but u can buy those if needed 14 $ per side

I put weather stripping also around the side rails

yes you need to remove soft top hardware

I pulled the wrong model years out of my very shallow brain pan.

Please ignore my previous efforts to be useful.

You need to get a top for any YJ model year: 1987 to 1995, just as NavyChief so politely suggested.

hey Geoff, what's up?:punk:

Thanks for the help everyone. I can tell this is the site I was really needing to find.

Do the soft upper half doors fit ok with the hard top? I don't think I can afford to do both at once, unless I find a great deal.

They fit ok. You might not get a perfect seal, depending on the hard top, but it will certainly work. The soft upper doors are adjustable in an old-fashioned way: you bend them until you get a nice snug fit.

I feel the need to correct my spelling. It's Geoduck. But it's pronounced gooey. Who knew?
Anyway, if you're from somewhere safely inland, this is the freakin' clams that grow in NavyChief's backyard:

Well, yeah. That was a pretty blatant hijack. But the question was answered! Granted, I answered it wrong. We aren't going for accuracy around here are we?

cj7 hard tops fit yj's and vice versa.
