Half Door Issues

Hey everyone. I just bought my first Jeep (05 Rubicon) used from someone and I'm really happy with it so far. I am yet to get around to posting into the new to Jeeping thread, but I'll get around to it eventually.

My question is in regards to the set of half doors that came with my Jeep (came with full doors too). In order to open them you first have to pull the inside handle and hold it and then pull the outside handle. It won't open with just the inside or just the outside.

I asked the person who owned the Jeep before me and he said that he had the half doors repainted and that the people that painted them might have messed with the linkages in the door. He said it might have something to do with the lock. I'm sure thats what it is because the locking switch does not stay in the unlocked position. If you push it to unlock it just springs back to half way between locked and unlocked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I could supply pictures if that would help at all as well.

First off welcome to the Forum!!!
In regards to your problem, it sounds like you have some binding issues in the linkage.
Only by pulling the door panels, will you know for sure! Panels do come off fairly easy,
just remove screws from inner latch, then pull clips from outer surround. Any problems
just PM me.

it happend to me

there is a plastic clip that holds the 2 rods together by the inside handle and lock, sometimes they break and sometimes when people are inexperienced they cant figure it out. more then likely it just needs to be clipped back together. if not the assembly is pretty cheap and if your handy you can do it yourself. the 1st time i did i was cursing and saying you have to be a magician to do this. the second time i fixed it was a breeze! good luck!

I did take the panel off and there didn't appear to be any obvious breaks in the linkage.
Geek: would you happen to have a picture of the clip? Because its either not there or I'm not seeing it. Does the clip hold the lock rod and handle rod together?
I think a picture would be a great help if you happened to have one.

Problem solved! Haha. So it turns out when the people put the door back together after painting it they switched the linkages for the handle and the lock.
