tire and axle problems

I have a 2002 Jeep X with 35x12.50 and stock axles. off roading is mild but a little sticky at times. Is this too much for the stock axle?? Should I go down i size?? I have a 6" lift on the Jeep. I really can't afford D44's.

Save your money

You could break that axle at any time one good bounce and you're toast.

Moving down in tire size is not cheep either...

I'd get the bigger axle if I were you; I'm sure your Jeep looks great but do you want to be all show and no go?

I assume you also have a 3.73 rear end?

If I were you I'd get bigger axles and taller rear end 4.11 or 4.88.

How well does that thing run down the road on 3.73 and all that rubber?

I thought some X's have the 6 speed. If it's the 6 speed, he has the 3.07 gears. I'm pretty sure that the 6 speeds came out in 05. Anyways, that's too big of meats on those axles. I would try and find a rear 44 with some better gears.

Yes get rid of the rear axle,.. a 44 would work.. try car-parts.com to get an idea of cost. As for the front carry some spare shafts and learn how to replace them and you should be good for a while. Also what kind of lift do you have on this thing?

The front should be fine. It's the rear that's suspect. But to tell you the truth. That axle is suspect on 33's as well. And running 33's with 6 inches of lift is just way overkill.

You might just want to be as careful as you can and save up for a beefier axle. I hate to tell you what to do, but it sounds like either way you are needing to spend some money on your ride.

Yep the six speed came out in 05. The 3.07 is standard with the 3.73 optional. Mine is an 05 with the six speed and 3.73 trac loc.
