Ok, I have searched here and couldn't find anything on this topic and if there is I missed it sorry. I am just extremely frustrated over the facts that I can't find any good information on this subject. Got a 02 manual and the throw out bearing is going out. So I might as well change the entire clutch while I'm down there. Now I have never changed a clutch but I really want to do it myself. I know I can do this but the only in-depth step-by-step instructions I have found are at 4x4xplor. The OM is terrible on this job. Does ANYONE know of another source that takes you through the process step-by-step? Book, video anything? Plus I am up in the air about what product to use: LUK, AMS, Centerforce II? Anyone have any opinions on any of these products? I plan to go to 35x12.5 soon so would more grip be better? Anything anyone can add to help out this newbie learn would be greatly appreciated. Go luk. The luk clutch will last almost forever with the stock horse power. The write up on 4x4xplor is right on. Follow that and it will make life a lot easier.

One thing to look at is when you choose a clutch get the entire set. Clutch, Pressure Plate, and throwout bearing. Another thing is when you go with a stronger clutch the pressure needed to operate it is higher. Which equates to a stiffer clutch and makes the pedal harder to push. This can be a bad thing if you do alot of shifting. I would recommend a replacement set close to stock. It will last forever. And flush your fluid when you do te job, it is worth the extra step. the fluid does need to be changed and now would be a good time to do it. Clutches are an easy job to do, just labor intensive. One more thing is make sure your flywheel is not beat up and do not have it turned. That can cause problems in my experience, just some emery cloth and brake cleaner to clean off any glazing. if its really grooved up replace it.

Don't forget to replace the pilot bearing also. This is very important to smooth shifts. I'm replacing my clutch this weekend.

X2 on the Luk recommendation, avoid the Centerforce clutch which is not well suited for a Jeep.

So I found this post and I'm having some trouble in the clutch department as well. I bought a Sachs clutch kit for my 97 jeep wrangler Sahara..... I've got the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing... I also have another bearing and I have no clue what it is.......?

I can't imagine what that third bearing could be for. Maybe to cover a different size pilot bearing for an older Wrangler?

That's what I was thinking.... But I don't know. It's got me all messed up. After all the time put into dropping the tranny I hate not replacing something that I have a new part for. Did you happen to pull up the clutch kit and look at that bearing? Preciate the comment back

Anyone figure out what the extra bearing is for in the Sachs kit? I just got one too and was wondering the same.

Ax 15 and the nvg3550 clutch replacement are coverd by the same kit. Only difference is the pilot bearing. I'd imagine they are covering bothe types with the kit.

One pilot bearing is just longer than the other can't remember which way it goes. I had to do a swap ax 15 to nvg3550. It was a direct bolt on minus that pilot beaing.

One has the sleeve on it already. I'll have to see if one is longer, I only took a quick look so far...

They are the same, just one has the sleeve. Sachs said it is for another application/same kit though.
