by the posts i've read latley i'd say just stick with the stock exhaust manifold...especially since its a new 06

gremlinsteve 10-20-2006 08:43 PM

im reading about all these cracked manifolds tho. since i am new to these jeep jeeps, im curious about why and how they are cracking ect.

if i can replace the thing now with some thing that will last and all that jaz, i will.

enlighten me

im not sure why they would crack...i don't think you will get a huge gain in performance though...so why change? the stock one shouldn't be prone to cracking since they should've fixed that after 99

gremlinsteve 10-20-2006 08:58 PM

kewl. so the cast manifold is not an issue then.

Your Manifold Will Be Fine, D.c. Solved The Cracking Problem Back Around 2000 With The Two Piece Manifold. If You Are Looking For A Header I Here Stay Away From Borla And Banks Because They Crack Easily.

no...like me and this other dude said, it is only problems for 97-99 tj's

I would leave your stock manifold alone, and if it cracks then replace it.
I have a 99, which cracked and I replaced it with a banks and have had nothing but problems with it. however, I did notice a performance gain when I installed it. which is why I'm trying to find a reputable replacement. I had a 89 jeep that also had a cracked manifold. so I'm getting kind of tired of this particular problem.

I really enjoy reading all these posts about the problems with after market headers. You know JEEP has been doing a fantastic job with headers on the 4.0L for years! How many 4.0's are out there times how ever many miles they have all been put through. Pretty dam good track record for me!

Why screw around with what works? If it ain't broke why fix it?

RedWrangX 10-25-2006 09:54 AM

in this months issue of jp mag they were talking about this, and even show a pic where the typically crack. as far as borla cracking easy i doubt it. but there are both a two peice or one peice header out there from borla maybe what you have heard about breaking is a one peice???? not sure, but you would be a special person if you replaced your new two peice design to an aftermarket one peice. so if you get a two peice aftermarket you should be good, you may not have had to worry about cracking with the new one , but you would bolt on a few hp atleast

I am running a Pacesetter header on my 4.2 and have been for almost 4 years. I have not had any problems. This problem may be 4.0 specific, I am not sure. I have also looked at headers from clifford performance, but don't know how well they hold up either. These two may at least be worth looking into.

Actually, I'm just talking bad about the JP mag. I think that magazine insults the intelligence of Jeepers and they do not listen to the Jeep community as to what they would like to have in a Jeep magazine. Those guys there are only going to do it their way regardless of the readers. That's fine. They can do it, because it's their magazine to ruin. Now, there is an alternative, though.

Chack out the Halloween costime contest here! You get extra credit if you dress up your Jeep.

RedWrangX 10-25-2006 01:10 PM

ok i wasnt aware the jp mag sucked. i will check out j rations

mrbigjeep 10-25-2006 01:20 PM

i think its OK...i like the actual jeep parts of it but i hate some of their stupid humor and stupid comments

RedWrangX 10-25-2006 01:25 PM

yeah most of the time when i buy mags its mostly just for the parts they list, this issue of jp has alot of good parts in it. most of which are exactly what i was looking for, i sent out for a sub. i dont think its that bad. its a good start for me anyway,to earn some things

amerijeep 10-25-2006 01:27 PM

I hope you guys win the contest so that yall can check out J Rations. You'll see what a mag should be. Of course, it IS on the racks.

RedWrangX 10-25-2006 02:40 PM
