tailpipe / muffler question
Driving home yesterday, my tailpipe disconnected from the muffler, it is very rusted and I knew it needed to be swapped out. I am new to tinkering with my car (this jeep is my learning vehicle), so I just want to confirm that I will be able to connect a new tailpipe to the existing muffler. The muffler has no holes, so I want to keep it.
Below is what I have under my jeep currently:
Am I going to have any problems? I will get a new set of clamps to have on hand. I will just un-clamp the existing clamp and attach the new tailpipe yes?
Thanks in advance,
well u could keep that muffler but get the pb blaster and torch out though
i'v learned over the year that its just easier to replace and get some new unrotted parts to work with
ooooh boy you're in for some fun for what should be a 15 min. job. rusted exhaust sucks. it looks like you can get away with it. but if you twist the end of that muffler or do any damage to it while removing that clamp you won't be able to. i'd cut it some how, torch, cut off wheel, or sawz all (last choice, lots of vibes)
and then you have to remove that couple inches of the tail pipe section that are still on the muffler. there's a really cool air hammer bit i have that splits exhaust pipe, perfect for this, doubt you have access though.

sounds pretty good on my system, although it's the only thing other than pipe.
Getting the old tailpipe chunk out of or off of the muffler might be tricky.
Sometimes you can get long nose vise grips & twist it out, or if it's on the outside you can cut it off with a careful grinder.
