What size is the gas tank on my '87 YJ

I just bought an '87 YJ with the 4.2L motor. The gas gauge is not working but I don't really care to fix it, I just want to know if I have the 15 or the optional 19 Gallon tank without running out of gas. Is there a visual way to determine this?

no i don't think so because theirs a way to turn the 15 into a 19

This is not the same as the filler neck conversion, in 87 their was and optional tank size, 2 completely different tanks.

ya, two different tanks. i can tell by looking, the bigger tank takes up the hole space. here's a good way to tell, if it looks like you can remove the rear shackle bolts without hitting the tank its the small one, if it looks like the bolts will hit the tank its the bigger one.

if all else fails, let me know i can take a pciture of both tanks for you i have one of each in the jeeps in the garage.

Great advice, pretty sure I have the bigger tank now, will find out for sure in a couple days.

Thanks
