Cherry bomb muffler

I'm looking to get a cherry bomb muffler to be a little louder, but I don't know which model. There are so many! I also want it to fit on my 97 sport, anyone have one or can provide some help?

I have a 97 sport with the 6. I put on a thrush series. It sounds great. I was initially going for cost. and the sound was perfect. a deeper tone and some sound.

It is noticeably louder though?

It is noticable, but to the obnoxious level. I cant stand that pissed off weed wacker sound on the the imports.. thats what cherry bombs sound like to me./...

Ah, I remember the Cherry Bomb days. It's going to sound like a ricer. If you want something that sounds better and alot deeper than stock but is not annoying, get a "Thrush Welded" and they are less than $40.

Man I had one on all my trucks growing up.. Neighbors loved me lol

I have a flowmaster muffler and pieced together the tail pipe out of 2.5" chunks. Its higher and a touch shorter.
Sounds pretty good IMO, Its a little throatier and has a bit of a muscle gurgle when cruising around town but its not obnoxious.

A lot of the clanking and "oh oh OOHHH's" were the jeep in front of me breaking his drive shaft, Thats also why I had to sit out at the top for a few and make sure they got clear and the parts out of the way.

What's the point of making things louder??
Is there a benefit?

larjeep 11-03-2013 06:45 PM

Yea. Louder = faster.

The main key to exhaust is finding the perfect combo of mandrel bent tubes with a low restriction muffler. but there has to be enough back pressure for the engine.

Well could you point me in the right direction? I'm wanting it to be less than 50 bucks

Part #17651

Dynomax 17651 Thrush Welded Mufflers - Free Shipping on All Orders @ JEGS

The stock muffler is longer, so you will also need a short straight pipe section too (~$5).

So no bad drone noice in the cab then? Been thinking of doing this as well but nevous about heavy drone noice going down highway.

Dextreme 11-04-2013 04:11 PM

Nope, no drone in cab... and I know what drone is as I have it in my straight piped Dodge Diesel. :bop:

At highway speeds it is not annoying at all and you can talk and listen to the radio at normal levels. Also, you can get the exhaust to compression pop going down hills, but it no where near as loud as a glasspack....it' more of a rumbly pop.

quadman14 11-04-2013 05:22 PM

I here on strait pipe Dodge Diesel I got same thing on mine. I Add back in the oem 16" resinator and it made a huge differance in cab Just an FYI no effect on outside noice at least not much.
